Wow, I wasn't expecting it to reach much more than the £5k it was at a couple of hours before the auction ended!!

Thats great money for the owner and good news for all of us owners!
Was thinking the same.

Mine is on 119k. Not as good condition but still.

I was about to bid on this up until about 1/2 hour before.. Really surprised.. Looked the business and very well sorted. But very strong money for 120k car. ? But certainly a good one.

Add in the buyers premium of £600 and it's top money. Good news for us all or just a case of two bidders who really wanted it? I guess it includes the original seats so could easily be put back to standard with parts to sell.

Evening chaps...I'm now (sort of) the proud new owner of #358 - although yet to collect it.

My background is more sports/supercars (same username on PH) however I've been after a clio for some time. I'd been keeping an eye on tracktime classifieds on fb for a more track focused car, although good ones have been steadily getting harder to find and going up in money. I figured I might as well spend a bit more and get a trophy over a 172/182, and the mods, history and overall condition of this one made it seem like a good choice. It'll be a third (probably 4th soon!) car for me so the mileage won't increase much over my ownership, I think it was pretty much on the money at what I won it for but the buyers premium stung a little!

Congrats on the new car. I was planning to bid up until about half an hour before but it went over my budget. It looked better than most with half the mileage. The hunt for a nice 182/trophy continues!

I would be getting that into a garage asap for a coolant flush and then keeping an eye on the level.

This looks mega low.

And I hate to say it but the forge coolant hoses are utter SH*T and leak. I have had 2 sets fitted and both leak at the join.
This could possibly be the coolant loss.

It also looks like its due a cam belt as the last time it was mentioned was in 2015

• Full cam belt, de-phaser pulley, water pump, thermostat and coolant service with OE parts in late 2015 (less than 5,000 miles ago)

Due on age and not milage.

Thanks for the advice - the seller did say on the phone that the coolant was looking a little low so he'd top it up. The car has been stood for a while so if the hoses are crap that could explain the low level.

The cambelt was last done in 2017 when the engine had some head work done, however I'm going to get it straight in for coolant flush, belts and general checkup as it's not worth the risk not to! Is the dephaser also a 5 year lifed item, or do they only need changing when they get noisy? Although the current one has been in since 2015, it's only done around 2k miles since then.

Congrats on getting your Trophy.

I follow the collecting cars site,its always great looking at some of the great looking cars they have,I certainly wont be buying anytime soon anyway...

Just curious how it works when you win the bidding for a car.
I presume you are put in touch directly with the seller about collection etc.
Do you pay for the car through collecting cars or basically they take their cut and leave everything else about the transaction between you and the seller?

They certainly seem to have found a place in the market and doing very well at it anyway.

They just take their cut and then send you an email with the seller's details and leave it up to you to complete the purchase with them. You have to register a credit card to be able to bid and the instant the auction ended I had the email to say I'd been debited £600.

You're right about them finding a place in the market, I wish it had existed for longer as the cars seem to achieve fair prices and it would have given me a great way to offload a couple of mine previously without the hassle of autotrader/ebay. I'd use it again, you just always have to bear in mind that 6% is on you as the buyer, which isn't capped until £6k.

Congrats on the purchase! You're gonna love it.

For the belts, as a general rule it makes sense to have all belts, dephaser and water pump etc done at the same time by a Renaultsport specialist. The labour is the biggest cost of the job, so it'll save the risk of having to pay it all again in the near future. Peace of mind if it's been stood a while, too.

I've got the car home, and all I can say is wow!

I absolutely adore the little thing. I'm aware it was expensive for a high mileage example but if you read the collectingcars ad and see the mods it has, you'll understand why I wanted it. I wasn't after a low mileage/pristine example, this will be a 3rd/4th car for trackdays and the odd hot hatch road trip with my mates. The lightweight flywheel makes gearchanges and heel toe downshifts a breeze, the dampers feel better than I ever thought they would and you can really feel the difference the cams and engine work make over a standard 182.

I'll start a thread on here for it (or continue its old thread if I can find it again) as I have a couple of plans for it. First and foremost is an oil change, as the last documented evidence is back at the end of 2017, not good! Although the car has only done around 2k miles since then it's definitely overdue a change. The oil currently in it is still nice and golden and the bit of cam I can see through the oil fill hole looks nice and clean and lubed. I live close to Diamond Motors, however they're not taking cars until August now so I'm going to do this change myself as soon as the parts arrive from RPD. Also on the list is investigating and fixing the coolant leak I think it has (nothing obvious from the forge hoses from what I've seen so far, although haven't been underneath it yet). I have a new headunit on the way but no further mods planned yet. I'll be removing the rear seat soon as and putting one of the large rear mats in its place as I have no need for the rears! I'm also planning on getting eyelets installed to allow me to clip in a harness for trackdays - I need to do some more reading on this as it needs to be removable, harnesses for road driving can be a right pain.

Here it is safely back on my driveway being dwarfed by my daily driver
