As I have mine and im now no longer interested in getting another one I have written confirmation that there is a Trophy plate going up for sale on the DVLA Auction site this Oct 2017.

The plate in question is TR02 PHY and it has a starting price of £130.

That’s not bad, who was it that chased up some trophy plates and got the Dvla to get them sold?

It was myself, I have had 4 number plates all go to sale and this is the last one that is available.

Like I say I now have my own trophy plate that is perfect for the car and this is the last one that is going up for sale.

Any links to this? Would love a plate like that.

There is 3 days and the auction will start. You will need to register and also give bank details as once you bid and win you are entering a legal binding contract and must buy it and pay.

The last plate I was bidding on went for over £2150 and that was TR05 PHY so this could go for decent money also.

If you bid in the last 30mins it then goes to a sliding bid and another 30mins is added extra on the time to give the current bidder time to bid more or leave it.

TR05 PHY was ment to finish at something like 1545 and it was still going on at 1950 and I pulled out at £2150.

You need to also remember that you have all your fee's on top so make sure you have deep pockets as £2150 was more around the £3000+ mark

Did you chase them up to get the plates at auction, there is a plate I want (not trophy related)and it’s not on anything so going to try and get them to auction or sell it.

You go through DVLA it will take months if not years.

You get in contact with the correct people in the correct department then they contact DVLA on your behalf and if the plate has never been sold, Been on a car, SORN or anything else they will put it in the next timed Auction.

I enquired about a plate in November 2016, they told me they'd confirm when it would go into auction, they didn't and it went in the one that's just finished.

I assume nobody placed a bid - I certainly didn't because I didn't know about it.

I'll try and get hold of someone to discuss next steps but I read if there are no bids they can never be sold in future, I just wonder if there's any truth in that.

Marc, have you any experience of this scenario?

Yeah I have asked the question.

As I say DVLA don’t have a clue and you just get passed from person to person.

I’m lead to believe that if the plate is in the auction and no one bidded on it and it never sold it can take years for it to come back round in the cycle.

I got an e-mail 2 days before the auction and I also get daily e-mail about the TR02 plate as it was me that requested it.

The chance of your plate coming back round are slim to none.

I asked for 4 plates this year and they have all went to auction and I won all 3 apart from the TR05 one which I was not prepared to pay the £2100+ fees for

Just to update this, I have received confirmation that the plate will be going into the very next timed auction in Jan-18.

I've been informed that I should receive automated e-mail prompts at the time, but I've also set personal reminders so there's no chance I'll miss out on the opportunity to place a bid.

Result and great work by the team at DVLA whose service has been exceptional.

Now I just need to wait for the bidding to begin and see what the interest is like.
