Hi folks,
A little moment of your time if you please.
As many of us here know, this forum has a really useful Owners' Register section. Each 182 Trophy is listed by number and owners and enthusiasts alike are able to update each car's 'history' by adding appropriate content to the associated thread. Some folks use this as a place to maintain a project thread (like myself), whilst others may simply wish to check prior history [for a specific Trophy] by having a read through the relevant thread. However that section is used it has proven to be a useful feature regardless.
Over recent months a few posts have appeared on the forum that has resulted in the sharing of potentially useful data - for example, the mileage thread and the thread asking where folks' Trophys are located (by county or principal area).
For fun, I did collate this into a simple data package which I exposed on my website for folks to view. I have shared this link elsewhere before and will present it again in a moment.
As a result of these threads I wondered if it might be a good idea to store and maintain this data so that folks could access it (in addition to the excellent Owners' Register present here). Clearly I wasn't the only person thinking along those lines as @dablk also shared the same thoughts. Consequently we were potentially looking to collaborate on a little project whereby we collate and cross-reference the information we already have and then stick it in a database so that interested folks can access it. It would not replace what is here but, instead, provide additional data such as last known mileage, locality (e.g. country and county), registration date and so forth. We could also potentially show original / current licence plate if folks wanted to share that.
So - I guess the question is... would anyone be interested in such a feature?
It's not necessarily meant to provide the latest and greatest information about a specific Trophy, nor is it guaranteed to be completely up to date. After all, there's no easy way of ensuring it stays absolutely current as it very much depends on what information people are prepared to share and/or what information can be drawn from public postings, etc. (such as for sale ads perhaps).
The database would be hosted on my secure website and only I have access to it. The plan would be that Chris (dablk) and I take the responsibility for handling the data we are provided with (or have available) but I'm solely responsible for the database admin. There would be no public-facing mechanism for data to be entered, or tampered with, and data would be presented via an appropriate web page. In no way would any data be collected that identifies a specific individual or that may be too sensitive.
It's important to re-iterate that this feature would not replace the Owners' Register nor would it be as comprehensive and feature-rich as the excellent Vehicle Smart. It's design would be to purely show a few bits of key information that Trophy owners and enthusiasts may be interested in. Nothing more, nothing less. In essence, an extension to the Register.
To see the sort of thing I'm rambling on about you can check out the Trophy Tracker page on my website. I've linked to it before and it shows the sort of thing I'm on about. If you follow the link below and type in my Trophy number 165 (or registration if you know it) then it should pull up some information about my Trophy. Likewise, clicking the Location option will allow you to see the current results from the thread asking folks to reply with the location of their Trophy.

Please feel free to share your thoughts, opinions, ideas, concerns, etc.
Many thanks,
