The car wasn't anything like it looked like in the photos when I bought it. The deeper you dig when having a car done the more you find and as most of you know, I have very very high standards.

Unfortunately it needed paint, and that wasn't cheap. Its had everything else it could possibly need and shouldn't now want for anything for many many years to come.

I then had it forensically detailed and even I was stunned speechless with the results.

It is now in just as good a condition as the 11k mile car which I inspected and collected for another dealer friend of mine.

I remember a 120k mileage car selling on CC last year for £7k. My Clio V6 that I sold last year for £40k has increased in value by nearly £20k.

The dealer who has the car is a friend of mine, I've priced it on what I believe is fair with what I have spent, my knowledge of the cars, their values, the market and what else I know is about to come to market and where the prices are going......

Do you not still own no 196 v6 Tom?

Just Seen your dealer friend also has this car for sale?

Nope, I sold it last year. He then sold it to a guy and its come back to the market again. Really the car has to go to a collector, its just too good to use.

Due to my imminent relocation to the highlands, I have sold most of my cars....... In fact I am currently sat in a B&B waiting to find out if I am going to be completing on my house today!

Interested to know what cost you £6k mate? Did it have a fair bit of paint?
Or was it just a pollen filter at Mark Fish? :D (Jokes :D)

Nah, I just threw a bucket of water over it, cleared all the fault codes and hand wrote a note saying "Dun sum wrk, cost 6 bags" and then gave it to my friend for him to sell...

In all seriousness, its so good that Im 50/50 as to whether to keep it. Its worth £16k and its only going to go up in value.....

Just imagine if you’d done paint and the pollen filter at Mark Fish!

You wouldn’t be able to afford that relocation. ??

Guess you will find out the market. I was openly willing to pay the £18k for the 11k car two years ago but the dealer wasn’t interested in a px my way with my Z4MC . Annoyingly it was this time round it was advertised with px considered.

It wouldn’t have been a garage queen for me but the miles I could even try to put on it would have taken me years to make it high. so I figured it was the closest to a new one at 13 year adjust prices I could get.

I wonder how much these values are driven by the pandemic. There's very few coming up for sale - maybe people are holding on to them for investment reasons, or maybe they're waiting until lockdowns have lifted. Obviously it's great as an owner/seller but it's really frustrating as a buyer.

Maybe I'm just bitter because I sold mine in 2012 (68k miles) for £5k.

The prices of a lot of cars like the Trophy have risen sharply over the last 12-18months. I think due to the pandemic there are a lot of people with money burning a hole in their pockets (from saving on not going on holiday, meals out, weekends away etc) and also the appreciation of values in these kinds of cars is a much better return that you will currently get from a lot of other financial options.....

As said - I might keep hold of it, and as soon as I am in my new place, I will be buying again........

The return on investment angle is an interesting one and part of the debate I've been having with myself as I consider another. If I still had mine:

- £7000-ish purchase price from memory (2009)
- Conservative £1k per year in running costs (insurance, servicing, tax) = £12k total, not including damper refurbs etc and the fact that these cars are now 16 years old
- Average maybe 5k miles per year

Means that to make any return today I'd be looking at selling a >100k mile car for minimum £20k. And that's excluding all the money I'd have spent on fuel. So while the car itself will likely hold/increase in value, you're unlikely to make any real-terms financial gain unless you SORN it.

That said, it's certainly more fun than money in shares or something if you accept that you'll lose money overall by actually enjoying the car. That's sort of where I'm at with it.

I'm back here after quite a few years as I'm maybe on the hunt for a Trophy again. I came across this thread and couldn't help but add my tuppence worth as a potential buyer.

I got wind of this car through social media and started following the seller. They sell "modern classics" - how I hate that term - and seem to specialise in investing in cars. Interestingly it was on their own website briefly but has now been taken down. Nothing to say it's been sold as per other ads on the site.

Not only is it a bonkers price, but I find it really irritating that these companies do this. It will hang around for ages until someone daft enough to buy it at that price comes along, at which point the going rate will shoot up. It will get locked in a garage while genuine enthusiasts get priced out the market.
guenuine anthusiats don't sell their car:unsure:

Wtf is a “soft restoration” it sounds like a couple of rattle cans, a bottle of aldi upholstery cleaner, a whizz over with the DA followed by liberal application of back to black
