Did anyone else spot the registration plate TR05 PHY sell for £2,150 +fees +VAT in the recent DVLA online timed auction?!

It inspired me to look for something similar (and CHEAPER!) for my Trophy, recognising that quite a lot of the good ones have already gone.

So, I recently purchased TY05 PHY; only one letter different from the above mentioned plate and only £250 including the assignment fee!! The equivalent '02, '03 and '04 also look to be available.

Be honest...not too bad or a bit naff?!

I was looking a while back for different combinations that looked good but read from another member that the car looks more original with the standard plate rather than personalised. The '05 combinations do work well IMO.

Always fancied S4CHS or B3NDS given the handling characteristics of the car.

That was myself that requested that number plate and bidded up to £2100 but the time the fee's went on it it was over £3k.
I spent 2 years in contact with DVLA to get that plate to auction with many e-mails and phone calls, I have also requested other plates but they have been sold via DVLA and below is the info DVLA gave me.

TR02 PHY - SOLD IN 2003
TR03 PHY - SOLD IN 2004
TR04 PHY - SOLD IN 2003
TR05 PHY - SOLD IN 2017

I have searched the DVLA site along with other apps like MOT Checker, MyCarCheck and these plates do not show, I asked DVLA about them and they said they could not disclose information on the above plates but there is many reasons why they don't show, A couple of the reasons could be that the plate is on Retention, It has been on a Car thats been exported or its been written off / crushed.

Im trying to think of another plate but once again DVLA have told me it will go to a timed auction and it could take 6 months to 5 years to go to auction, They are all randomly selected.

Anyone can request any number plate they like, My mate has requested "77 JAS" and thats got a starting bid of £1600.

Here is one of the e-mails I got.

Thanks for the insight into this Marc, very interesting indeed. Really sorry that you missed out on the plate after all of the hard work you put in to get it into an auction.

Marc, how do you request plates?

There is 2 ways to do it.
The slow slow way that takes weeks / months for updates and info and thats to contact DVLA.

Or

The fast way which can give you an answer in 2 weeks max.
You phone a number, ask for the plate, They send an E-mail to a department with you copied in and you get a response telling you if the plate is available , If the plate has never been made it then goes to Auction Which there is 4 per year, The starting bid will be what ever DVLA want it to be and then its a free for all.

I stared by doing things the slow way and it took months.

Either way you are not guaranteed to get it in the next auction and it could take anything from 6 months to 5 years for it to even go to auction depending when DVLA get there finger out.

Cheers, do you have the number?

I got mine years ago a similar way but filled a form in online which has subsequently disappeared.

I've been after a couple of plates for 6-9 months now, and have just got off the phone with a nice chap at the DVLA.

I made an enquiry online months and months ago, and nothing at all.

The guy just now confirmed that the plates I was interested in had never been issued and my requests were in the queue to be sent to auction. He warned it was unlikely they'd go this year due to huge levels of demand.

I will continue to wait, impatiently.

That's the issue I had to start with and waited forever and then I got different contact details direct to the people that sell the plates who then speak with DVLA and get the ball rolling.

When you go to DVLA and you fill out a request online it gets pushed from office to office and takes forever. It's just customer service people that deal with stuff that's takes weeks to get to the correct department.

My other half requested a plate less than a month ago and it's now going into the next timed auction which I believe is june. The next one after that is Oct I think

Can you send me them please mate.

Drop me a PM on CS.net as I'm not always on here and I will take a picture of all details and explain how to go about it

I remember seeing that on the auction list earlier this week.

As all the TR0* PHY are gone there is not a huge selection and no one with number 459 is going to buy 376 and its good as it means something something to the car.

As above the info I got from the auction / DVLA is this and the only plate that you could go for is TR55 PHY due to the others all being sold.

TR02 PHY - SOLD IN 2003
TR03 PHY - SOLD IN 2004
TR04 PHY - SOLD IN 2003
TR05 PHY - SOLD IN 2017
