I would like to change out my clocks because the previous owner put yellow dials in. I am assuming that the mileage on my car is stored in the ECU and not the clock itself. Does anyone know if that is true? or do I need to find clocks with mileage as close to mine as possible?

Pretty sure the mileage starts at zero on new clocks. I have the factory hardware & even with that i remember when at Renault we used to fit new inst panels under warranty with “0” miles & then add a note in the service book to make the mileage change clear.
I’m not 100% certain but think the chassis no. might need programming into it once plugged in…would need to check my notes on that later. Certainly on some models this was needed as the immobiliser was part of the panel, with the Clio 2 not 100% sure. Can hook up to mine and see tho give me a day or so.

Mileage is stored on the clocks NOT the ecu or anything else.
Your best bet is to go onto eBay and find a set of 172 or 182 clocks that match your mileage (or there abouts) - there are plenty on eBay all about £20.
Failing this you can buy new or old and have the mileage reset by somebody that does it. Very quick and easy and normally costs about £80. Google “mileage correction”.

I had to have secondhand clocks when #165 was being rebuilt due to the originals being discarded! A specialist had to be brought in to ensure they displayed the correct mileage. I think it was around 70 quid or thereabouts from memory.

pretty sure mileage of most cars are stored in the cluster to prevent easy tampering. There are professionals out there that can adjust the mileage on the cluster to make sure it matches your current cluster. Alternatively you can change the dials back to OEM if you wish (harder more fiddly route).
Purchase a second hand speedo and just transfer the dial plate to your original
