After taking a proper look around the Trophy I’ve just bought, I’m coming to the conclusion that it needs a full respray, as opposed to a touch up.
Any idea of how much I should be paying for this and where to get it done? I’m near Stevenage / Bedford, so Beds/Cambs/Herts ideally.
Car is going to BeanieSport in MK on the weekend to take a look at the oily bits and what needs doing.

If you just hand the car over without prep work etc i'd be budgeting anything from £2k to £4k for a full repsray, you can knock a fair bit off it though by doing some of the time consuming leg work yourself i.e masking up, removing windows, interior, lights and trim etc and prepping the paint.

Depending on how bad it is, you may get away with just paint and lacquer, if not then repairing bodywork, rust prevention, etch primer (different for plastics and metal areas) will likely increase the cost.

Personally - i'd do all the prep work yourself - not really an art to it, more care and time. saves you a fair bit. Also ensures the bodyshop only have a few things that can go wrong.

best tip is to stay away from bodyshops that do insurance jobs - they cut corners and will be poor value for money. When it comes to paint work, you get what you pay for.

I recently had the front bumper, rear bumper and bonnet on my Trophy resprayed, and that was £1k alone.

And, I had removed the panels myself and taken them down to the paint shop, i.e. didn't just leave the car with them to take the panels off.

As mentioned above, you get what you pay for. I'm very fussy, particularly when it comes to things like paint, so I'm always happy to pay the money to get it done properly. I have seen some very poor paint jobs.

But agree with the above, definitely worth doing some of the prep work yourself, at the very least removing doors/glass/trims etc.

I'd expect that if you did all of the prep work, so they just needed to paint, you would still be looking at £2k to £3k for a good job. Then it will obviously go up from there, depending on how much you are prepared to do before paint, and whether any repairs etc are needed before paint.

How weird, I sat in my garage last night looking at my Trophy and wondering exactly the same thing. I was looking at the front and rear bumpers and thinking of just getting these painted, but have come to the conclusion that I would rather have a complete respray and have a high quality job

Whilst the paint is pretty good overall (for 15 years old) it lived outside for at least 5 years with the two owners after I originally owned the car and whilst its been 3 stage paint corrected, clayed, ceramic coated, and countless layers of wax, I am still not happy with it.

Might well go the whole hog and have the whole thing painted and then the front PPF'd just because I am really fussy.

Unfortunately, I have had horrendous experiences with paint shops (having my car stripped of parts at one place, someone else moving units, changing company name and taking my car with them and not telling me where they moved to, to someone else who had one of my cars for over a year after I stupidly paid up front).

These experiences make me incredibly nervous and really need to find somewhere recommended.

I mentioned it to my mechanic when he collected my Trophy this morning (its off for some more refurbishment that it doesn't REALLY need) and he has recommended a painter who specialises in Ferrari's. Not going to be cheap by the sounds of it, but hopefully it will be worth it.

I can highly recommend Extreme Finishing in Basingstoke. They did the panels on my Trophy recently. Very, very good job.

When I went to pickup the panels, he was in the middle of a full inside and outside respray on a B7 RS4 Avant (a near £10k job apparently).

I too have had some bad experiences with paint shops, and am mega fussy with paint. But I can highly recommend Extreme; Jamie is a great guy, honest, up front, and quality of his work is top notch. Just something to consider

Thanks guys. Car is going to BeanieSport tomorrow to get the mechanicals up to scratch. When all that is sorted I'll start looking at the cosmetic side and get some quotes.
