Update for you all:
I received a first cost calculation today quoting a price that shocked me. It was so high, that I am ashamed to mention. I didn’t expect that. I am trying my best to get an alternative offer as I don’t want to give you an offer that everyone would throw old Renault parts on me. Cost was double the price I expected. I am working and trying my best!

So, update for you all:

Price per damper will be about 200 to 230 GBP per damper. Dampers will be manufactured in a special series by Bilstein
matching the oem damper. This will not a standard Bilstein damper but a special manufactured edition.
The dampers will be black without stickers and they will come with a dirt stop and bump stop.
At the moment a oem damper is send to Bilstein to take measurements an do the testing.

A possibility for central UK distribution is actually considered. I already had a commited member from this forum supporting me.

I will open an order thread and I will organise payment. Dampers will have to be paid up front.

Please give me two more weeks to set everything up. Please proceed registering if you are interested.

I do appreciate the time and effort that RsMax will have put into organising this, but I’ll be the first to admit I can’t really justify £400ish on a pair of rear dampers which my car doesn’t need right now, having just spent that on new tyres. The general consensus from previous threads I’ve read is that standard cup dampers are very similar and are a quarter of the projected cost. My car will never be a low mileage collectors item, so think I’ll be passing on these after all

I have been watching this very closely with interest and I can understand why the price is the price.
To have a damper made from scratch is a big thing for any company to do especially if they are not going to go into general production as a front and rear kit.

Personally for me I would unfortunately not be willing to pay the price for the reason that 182 CUP dampers are only £45 a side and true trophy geeks that are very very a*nal will look for Sachs regardless.

If garage / low milage trophy ornaments that dont get used want to save there Sachs it would make sense to pop a set of cheap cup dampers on and keep the Sachs safe.


Is there no way of speaking to Sachs ZF and see how they respond as surly they will have everything to make these and hopefully at a slightly cheaper price ??

I agree with the above from @northy

If Sachs ZF got on board and it was £400 for a pair I would jump on that also as people want OE and it helps keep the trophy as factory as possible.

Firstly I certainly don't want to detract from the work done by RsMax to date, from being on the receiving end of a lot of enquiries over the years to reproduce shocks, or group buys, I know they can be a tricky. If i can add something to the group I will, so respect to them for getting this far.

At this point I should say that I am from Cooksport who are the sole UK distributor of AST and Moton suspension. We are also a Renault specialist and I also happen to own a 182 Trophy.

I can produce a batch of over 50 pairs of AST shocks. Unlike the regular AST Clio 2 rear dampers, they would be smooth body, grey in colour, match the originals for fitment, the body would be slightly larger diameter, and the shafts would be 14mm but the lengths would be the same. These would also be monotube dampers. Unlike the 5100 suspension we supply these wouldn't be inverted, orange or adjustable. They'd just look like stock dampers but with the quality of AST.

We can rebuild them in the UK so if there were any issues, we can rebuild. replace shafts etc. just like the fronts. If someone was able to supply me with the best possible condition original rear damper (pref new unused spare) to Dyno i will ensure the valving is a replica of the original too.

I would need commitment of 100+ dampers (50 pairs) the price would be as follows. They would be ready 5 weeks from the close of the group buy.

Total £415.20

Before we go into the logistics of payments etc. it's probably best people feedback to see if this is worth while.

I recently had my original Sachs colour matched at a local paint supplier.

I’ve then had new rear stickers made and got a full set of brand new oem cup shocks with top mounts etc etc.

Painted, laquered then finally popped the new repro stickers on.

This has worked out at sub £200 for anyone wandering/looking at other options.

(If anyone needs the paint/stickers then give me a shout)
