I grasped the nettle, put the space heater on and set to in the garage yesterday. Although I got a full set of Brembo pads with the discs I wasn't going to change them as the Renault ones had hardly any signs of wear but I thought they looked nice so I've fitted them in.
I took the caliper carrier off but left the unit attached to the pipe. I cleaned the caliper and stub axle up with a brass wire brush in a drill. Then washed it all down with brake part cleaner. Sprayed the caliper parts up with adhesion aid, grey primer, Renault Pearl Black top coat and clearcoat finish. Very pleased with the finish. I brushed the stub axle, ball joint ends etc in Hammerite black. I had already painted the disc centres, cleaned them up with IPA, adhesion aid, grey primer and satin black topcoat.
So that's the front offside can corner done.
I've pressed the bearings into the rear disc hubs this morning and fitted the ABS rings. So next job rear offside corner

Wheel nuts look good. Did you give them a paint too ?

I haven't actually done the set in the pic yet Rik. I have done them before and I've just done a spare set to swap over, I did them about 10 months ago and they have lasted well. I just clean them up on the brass wire wheel, scotchbrite them, spray a thin coat of adhesion aid then primer and satin black. Dry them off with the heat gun at this time of year if you want a quick turn round.
When fitting then get a piece of plastic bag over them when pushing the socket on, that prevents paint chipping.
To paint them push them into holes in a piece of strong card, makes the job easier.

They are just Brembo drilled and grooves Greg. I bought them off a lad on the CS Facebook site, £70 for full set of discs and pads new but cardboard disc boxes had fallen apart !

Great job mate.

But just be careful when painting the face of the hubs - the paint wears/thins/moves so just keep checking the wheel bolts are tight for first few miles

Yes cheers Paul. I have noticed this once before on a car I had. I'm one for fairly regularly checking wheel nuts anyway after losing a wheel on a mini back in 1979!!

Well I dragged my old arse into the garage and did the rear o/s corner tonight. Fortunately everything came apart easily, once I'd taken the hub nut off the disc just slipped off, no braying with hammer needed. No need to wind the piston back either as the gen Renault pads were hardly worn so the Brembos slotted straight in, actually getting the pads locked into the carrier was a faff, the little shim on the bottom was fiddly to get back in. Easier to fit them with the carrier off then slot the whole assembly over the disc and bolt on.
