So last night, the car alarm goes off and on going out to the front of the house I'm 'confronted' by three 'young men' dressed in black with face coverings.

The Trophy is jacked up and the Cat is being sawn off ... bloody cheek.

So, I've reported the theft to the Police (who came round very quickly), and am waiting on Admiral to advise what to do. The rear and front exhaust are of course there, but not driveable. I'll get it recovered to a specialist if Admiral OK it, and have it replaced. Might need the O2 sensor cable as well.

My question thus is, can you still get a Renault Cat, and if not, what are the best options to go for ..... if any exhaust flanges are damaged then I will be claiming for a full exhaust and Cat. I know K-tec do them and others, but want one that works well and doesn't fail MOT etc.

Any recommendations much appreciated.

Thank you. I'll see what the insurance say and also see when I can arrange fitment .... might need the Cat back as well. I'm unsure on delivery times from the likes of k-tec.

What a sh1tshow. So sorry to hear this Ian. Id recommend the Pure Motorsport system and cat.
Vastly superior to OEM and the other offerings out there IMO ( ive owned a good few from BTM, Orbisoud and PMS).

I think I may need a manifold as well depending on where it was cut. Car off to Sean Edwards who is always super helpful and will fully assess what is needed; he's already contacted Ktec for availability and I'll get him to contact PMS also.

Sorry to hear this Ian.
The cats on these cars are worth up to £500, maybe its a lesson to us all.
Swap the Oem for an aftermarket one and box up the original.

Sorry to hear this OP

Problem with going through insurance is you will loose some of your NCB, you'll effectively have a fault claim registered against your policy and you will have to pay your excess. Might be cheaper to get the cat fitted yourself.

Cheers.

Thanks for the feedback to date. When removing the Cat they cut the flange of the manifold and damaged the rear silencer pipework so I will effectively need manifold to backbox replacing. I've priced up a complete Ktec system but there is a 14 day backlog so will get a courtesy car.

Yes it is a real pain as £150 excess and loss of some no claims but I only pay about £200 a year as I'm 'old'.

My main concern is they will simply return and steal the new one albeit not as valuable but they won't know that. I could consider running decat and only install the Cat at MOT time.

Will update in due course but the recovery driver said he had done 100 since Christmas.

That’s shite.. pretty sure you have to remove the head to get the manifold in. So your really want to get a flange welded back on The PmS system is a few bits so may go on with no engine out.

Sean Edwards is doing the work for me through my insurance who have the photos of the pipes being cut. I'll see what they approve but at the moment I need a new manifold unless I can find a good used one.
