Did a double-take yesterday, for the 2nd time, when I spotted my 1st 60-plate. Why have they jumped from 10 to 60 and not 20? And what will be the next 'jump'?

I believe its because they usualy bring out the 51, 52, 5* numberplates around this time of year, so sequentially the next step is the 60's. I believe the numberplates which are brought out around march/april with 01, 02, 0* in them will become 11, 12 1* and go up from there.
I think thats how it goes? :?

Yeah that's pretty much right - basically all the "5x" numbers have now been used, so for the second half of each year for the next decade "6x" numbers will be used instead. So this year we've gone from "10" to "60"; in March we'll see "11", then this time next year it'll be "61".

The "20" code will be used in March 2020, with "70" coming in September that year. In September 2049 the two-digit code on numberplates will logically reach "99" leaving, I guess, "50" for March 2050 and "00" or something for September. After that another system will have to be introduced - touch wood we'll be around to see it! Not sure I'll still be driving the T though...

Hopefully that makes sense.
