what should an original gear knob look like?

Can you still get them?

What’s fitment? Screw on?

I’ve got one of the above that MarcB has kindly posted above with the part number - have they increased in price Marc as I paid £95.

In my view there nothing like the original one but it’s the only genuine one you can get now.

Also B*****d to fit !!! Knock on.

What’s everyone’s favourite Knob - I mean gear knob.

One of mine has to be the sleek leather M sport getrag knob’s from the mid/late 80’s.

I love any of the gear knobs in any Type-R.
Extra nerdy bonus points for the gear-lever cover in the NSX-R NA2 that is mesh
and saves a few very vital extra few grammes in weight ;)

Not only do they look that extra bit special and of course being made from titanium
gives them extra bonus cool points plus it connects you to what is usually some of the best
gearboxes ever put into a car.

Or for those on more of a budget, the DC2's is equally as good

I was going to say Mk1 Integra Francis - I had a Championship white one when they first came out.

Thought you might have gone for the Golf Gti first - another good one was the mk1 Focus RS.

Another vote for the Honda type r type gear knobs, the one from my FN2 was excellent.

May also be a good point to debate the worst knob you’ve ever had! Ahem!

mine was the one in my mx5, aluminium and nice material but never satquiteright in the palm…..so to speak. Other that the one in my Xantia was a good fit but poor materials

Some not so nice ones in my opinion are -

Subaru P1 / RB5 etc
Toyota MR2 Mk1 - great little gearbox though.
Astra / Vectra VXR’s - H- J models.

Old Ford’s now look little long and rubbery (no jokes please) but we all have great memories of driving them.

I always enjoyed the titanium item in a Civic Type R (EP2) from many moons ago.

In more recent times, I've found the delicate and diminutive one used to swap the straight cut cogs in our '65 Cooper an absolute joy to use, and the box has an incredibly short and compact throw compared to other classic mini's I've had with the later rod-change type box. I creates a real mechanical connection to the car and has to be used with a very deft touch, which really adds to the driving experience for me.

The one I'd rather like to have a go with though is the balsa wood one in the Porsche 917, wouldn't that be an event and a half!! They later replicated the style for the V10 Carrera GT I believe.

I loved the gear knob in the EP3 Type-R - unless it was very cold or very hot, in which case there was a certain amount of pain and discomfort to be endured until said item was eventually acclimatised to one's hand. :ROFLMAO:

I find it hard to look past this at the moment. It just works beautifully.

That is rather special! The one on our old Boxster was nowhere near as nice as that.
Attention to detail like that is so important, it’s the same for any contact areas for me.
