Car won't start. Ran fine to the shops. Returned to go home and the car won't start. Dash lights on but battery won't turn over! New battery just fitted and left on trickle charge. So not battery.
Alternator is OK too.
Stuck outside band q. Any ideas?

It's not the immobiliser and the key fault I had years ago, does the light on the dash (the red dot) go out when you put the key in the ignition?

Also may be the TDC sensor which is another potential cause.

Try and check the starter motor connector. It's a bit fiddly to get to, but if the manifold is cold you should be able to put your hand down the back of the manifold. Mine was loose a while ago and that solved it.

Thanks guys. Got my mate out and started with a jump state. Will do some further investigations. Same thing happened last time I drove it a month ago. So fitted a new battery thinking this had resolved it. Is there any sort of hot start problems with these cars?

May be down to a missing heatshield by the starter if this has been removed but you would expect this to be permanent rather than intermittent.

Not aware of any hot start issues and never have had this in 120,000 miles over ownership. The immobiliser can be a common issue which is normally resolved with a new key. Hope you get it sorted.

Found the connector to the starter motor was a little loose. Did notice there appears to be no heat shield between the starter motor and the manifold. Is this right? picture taken from underneath the car.

I thought that it was fastened in place using the manifold nuts but it appears not. It looks like it's clipped in place and just pulls off.

Nope, wrong again. There are 2 fasteners holding it in place in the middle of the shield.

My heat shield is definitely missing then. Could be the problem along with the loose connection. Will try sourcing a replacement. May have to use some adhesive protection in the meantime.
Great help with the pics, thanks.

Yes i was hearing about it on Sunday. A few TVR mates went on the run, did you see a dark grey supercharged Chimaera. I know they were there..
I was otherwise engaged on Saturday...I bet it was warm in the cabin of the TVR on Saturday.?

Managed to source a second hand motor heat shield which I think will sort the problem. Contacted Renault who unsurprisingly no longer stock the part.

Luckily had the top off most of the day, but did get stuck in a downpour which certainly cooled me down. So many tvrs never got to see your mates chim but there were some lovely examples present.
