Fuel Rail Guard Removal

How to you get this fuel rail guard off? I purchased some longer length sockets but they still won’t get to the nut! Is there a special tool for the job? I can’t see any reason why the sockets shouldn’t reach or fit around the nut.

Just use a socket extension and a deep socket.

That’s what I’m doing but it feels like the socket isn’t going over the nut. It just turns. I’ve tried all sorts of sizes.

Some are 13 and some are 10 mm sockets.

You need a socket that doesnt have thick walls to it. a 1/4" halfords one will work. Cheap sockets are usually thin enough too.

its the same issue with a couple of the coilpack bolts.

As the nut is not quite centred, you may just need to apply a fair bit of pressure whilst turning the socket for it to locate properly.

Yeah and i found you have to change your combo half way out as you might find your backing into the slam pan. As Gus said.. Cheap thinwalled sockets are good. I'm pretty sure i got mine out with 1/4inch kit. there also a chance you will not turn the nut but actually unthread the stud from the head.

I’m using Halfords sockets. They’re long enough but it’s looking like the nut is an odd size. The spare bolts have 10mm nuts but it’s like a 10mm won’t fit over the nit and a 11mm is too big! Anyone know of a 10.5mm socket!!

i donthink i even had to use a deep socket.. you not got a 1/4inch socket set with a skinny extension to try

Just had another go. Turns out that one was a 10mm and the other a 12mm! No idea why!
