Front Damper Bumpstops/Gaitors.

Hi all, if any of you might happen to have any front (Sachs) damper bumpstops/gaitors available / surplus I would be interested.
Either new, or used and still serviceable, I have cash waiting.

172/182 bumps & gaiters are very different to Sachs. They’re not compatible as far as I can see.

Ah ok. I wasn’t sure and have a friend who may have a set going spare.

I have still not checked what I do have as I promised a while back, sorry. I guess the ones that come off the car in May might be spare but not sure of their condition and I think the gaiters have perished.

I’ve made a bit of progress and have more handle on materials spec now and possibilities to actually hand make a batch…
The problem with approaching manufacturers is the quantities, they don’t want to spend £1000’s tooling up to sell 20 bump stops to a handful of Trophy owners… understandable really.
The other option is finding an off the shelf item which exists already which is a close match in shape, size and material spec to the Trophy item. I’m pretty sure this is what Renaultsport did back in the day, as I can’t see them creating bespoke tooling for such an item for just 550 cars.. I think I’ve narrowed it right down now and have ordered some for comparison purposes.

I will keep you all updated as to my findings with these. I’ll trial them on the Hillclimb 172 Cup too, see if they do the job in an ‘extreme environment’..

Great work Ed. I would absolutely be interested in purchasing a few sets if the option was there.
