So I can call up the symbols on the dash when I press the switch but can't actually activate either of them. I've had the car since October 2014 and it's never worked in my ownership, just getting round to it now.

I've had it in at the garage and the mechanic was thinking either the clutch position sensor or the brake light switch but there are no codes.

I know the wheel has been off before to get re-trimmed, is there any chance this could have anything to do with it or are there any other likely suspects that won't necessarily show a code?

Is the cc switch at your knee staying latched? My old 182 needed that switch pulling apart and the contact pins bending back a bit. It was all pretty easy.

Brake light switch. Mine went crazy. Replaced it. The important thing though is setting the plunger. If you set it incorrectly, it will still cause problems.

I recommend:

1. Remove the steering wheel cover using a regular screw driver.
Push the driver gently into the holes on the back of the wheel
and lift the cover off (fiddly job). I have not cut of the cars battery!!

2. When you have removed the Cover you can disconnect the airbag
module. You can also See the wires and connectors for the cruise
control switches. Disconnect them, clean them, put them back together
put the cover back on and it will hopefully work! If the wheel has been
removed before they may have made a mistake whilst fitting it ;)

I wouldn't be touching anything to do with the airbags without disconnecting the battery and waiting a while, you'll lose your fingers if it goes off!

Just had the aux. belt kit done at SWR and a few other bits and pieces. Replacing the injectors now leaves me with working cruise control for the first time in 3.5 years.

Interestingly enough it seems that an issue with them while not triggering the EML was enough to stop the cruise from working.

Mine seems to work intermittently. The switch seems to get hot and disables cruise control after a while.

I've taken it to a few 'specialists' and they don't know what is causing it.

SWR are amazing. Wish I lived close to them, only ever hear good stuff about them.

I had this issue years ago.
It’s the fact that when there is a fault (EML) it disables the CC and brake pedal switch.

Even with using a standard OBD reader to clear the faults it’s still stored in the memory and CAN CLIP is needed to remove it and reset it.

It’s the same with emission, if you have failed an MOT with emissions but you have changed everything it’s cause the ECU needs the fueling reset.

This is something I never knew until recently as I spent a couple of hours with the guys from SWR on a Sunday to do this with the car on the emissions tester.

If you change your injectors , lambda sensors or plugs and leads this is something I would highly recommend.

Bit of a follow up here. Not sure how much the injector issue actually had to do with the cruise control now as the EML came on again the other day (not a misfire code but relating to the cat) and it being on does not affect the cruise control at all.

The only other issue I suggested to them at the time was the fog lamp symbol flickering when braking and indicating being a sign of a wiring fault with the rear lights. I suspect fixing that is what has the cruise working again.
