Difficult decision time... owned 485 since brand new done 49k miles . Sachs likely need rebuild , and have serviced the car myself since new so no official service history other than cam belts done by Renault . Car failed mot today on emissions and did last year two , put new cat on and it scraped through last year. I don’t want to keep launching money at it so been thinking of selling to buy bigger car (newborn baby and alsation )

Would I do better selling car with no mot as a project . Part x with new car garage . Or just pay the quoted £450 to get through mot? Then decide later?

I know not having service history puts most private buyers off. My plan was to keep it forever!

If you sell it or keep it I think you need to MOT it. Being a one owner from new with low miles are big plus points I wouldn't get out of shape about the history if the big jobs are documented personally.

What's it failing on, lambda sensors?

I think the problem will be finding someone prepared to take the risk, after all, who’s to say it might not cost double that and some to secure a pass.

A 12 month ticket will make it much easier to sell I’d have thought, price-dependent, of course.

If it only just scraped through with a brand new cat is that indicative of a different problem?

Good luck.

take it to a specialst.. find out why its scraping thru? sensors, over fueling.. knackered cat.. A specialist that can actually read and decipher the car. Micks in Nottingham , not a million miles from Bradford and your allowed to drive without mot to a garge for repairs if pre booked. RS tunning in Leeds?

Are you taking it in hot? I was always told to rag the shit out of mine to get the cat working and then keep it as high as possible on cruise prior to testing, especially when its an adhoc car. Would always book the first mot on a sat at kwikfit. car arrives on fire. and was always still warm when tested. none of my 182's ever failed on emissions.

When it failed last time on emissions still on original cat a new lamba sensor sorted it. Last year the original cat was rotten so they put a new one on . Have spoken to rs tuning who are scanning it Monday . I’ll take it from there we buy any car offered me £2k as it is was quite tempted at the time to save the hassle!

£2, 000 pounds, 49k, dependant on condition even without garage service history you still have an £8k ish car there, once mot is sorted.

Really , thought the market had dried up on these , I know there’s one on eBay for 13k! I’d be happy with 6.5-7!

Biggest mistake you did was service the car yourself as to a collector etc it's a major turn off.

You can get more than 5k that's for sure. Personally it's around £7,500 imo

is Anyone running a sports cat? After I posted this he re scanned it to clear the engine light and a cat error code came up saying “cat not functioning effectively “

A genuine 182 cat is a sports cat think it’s a 100 cell. I would look into trying a few s/h ones before forking out hundreds of pounds on a decent aftermarket one.
