I don't think that's a fair comment. I'd agree they aren't up to a manufacturer warranty standard but they do offer some peace of mind, I've had various warranty stuff paid for in the past on a used car warranty, gearbox, alternator, wheel bearing and a couple of other things.
You are also covered under the new Consumer Rights Act 2015 which is a good piece of legislation for the buyer.
The main thing is as we all know is the overall condition of the car, history etc. Just because a car has done 50k miles doesn't necessarily make it worth more than one that's down twice that.
