Without warning the trophy's decided to throw a wobbly... I've electric power, but when starting there's no reaction to the engine - ticking, turning, nothing....

Battery seems fine, once bump started it won't maintain drive either - I'm thinking its likely to be solenoid related, any thoughts?

So you try cranking and you get no clicking of the starter solenoid?
Does the dash illuminate?

yeah -- won't crank over at all, bump starting has the engine running but as soon as you stop, so does the engine. So sort of ruled out starter motor, battery, alternator etc...

not yet, having had a battery go before and I had prior warning of it's imminent demise, but not this one (which is only 4 years old.... )

Still, they can die on a cell and just go like that. If you can remove a terminal on it and jump start it from another car will prove out the rest of the system. Quick and easy to do.

Will do

It wouldn't jump start, forgot to mention that - even connected to a much more powerful battery/car combo (Shogun with unrated battery)...hence me thinking it's not battery, but will try another one...

TDC sensor? If that’s failed, car will turn over but struggle/fail to start. Happened to me.

It wont turn over at all - I just get dashboard lights, fan will work though... Currently in with my local specialist to diagnose the issue... will report back with the issue and solution

If it was the crank sensor it would continue to crank but not fire. There is power to illuminate the dash but not enough to engage the starter solenoid to crank.
My money’s on the battery or broken starter wire than means the battery power isn’t reaching the starter for whatever reason. If the PCM was down then the dash wouldn’t illuminate.

Im just in contact with the manufacturer of the battery (Duracell) to find out what the guarentee is as it's only 3.5 years old...

Well, it was an easy fix... The earth lead to the engine had snapped, not sure how though...

Just for info the Clio 2’s suffer from earth lead corrosion between the copper wire & the crimped part of the eyelet. Not visible but basically creates resistance which reduces the continuity to earth.
