My boot catch has developed a really annoying squeak.

My local Renault dealer just greased it

Not being remotely mechanical, I can't do much myself, but one question:

The U shaped metal catch that protrudes up from the catch on the car body (rather than the bootlid): Is it meant to move forwards and backwards by ~1/2"?

Mine does. Could someone look next time they're in their boot?

Just went and checked for you. Yep does move up and down about a quarter of an inch but it is reasonably stiff. Mine will probably start doing it now i've fiddled. :)

How about taping up the u shaped bit, make it a bit more snug. Not sure how long it'd last though

Mine developed a squeak a few months ago. The position of the catch can be adjusted by loosening the screws that secure it to the car - adjusting then tightening screws. I tried repositioning it and also putting some grease on it. This seems to have worked.

Not related to the above problem I now have the middle of the parcel shelf (oval section) banging on the tailgate plastic trim. I tried bending the parcel shelf - worked for a while but now doing it again - thinking of putting some foam on it!
