Anyone use a Carcoon?

Hi all, as the title suggests, I'm looking at getting a Carcoon or three in the near future to store the cars in. Does anyone have any experience of using them? I'm guessing the Veloce model with the drive in access is the most practical.

I have thought of getting one of these or the airflow chamber equivalent.
My 2 garages are dry,draft free and have carpet on the floor.
I do love my cars but like to use them, they aren’t worth mega money and wonder what long term benefit I would get from these units unless I left them resting for years.

It sounds like you already have a good set up with your garaging, without going into too many details we're not in quite as favourable a position and we live in a particularly wet part of the country that seems to be getting wetter by the week at the moment..

Initially, my main concern is our 1965 Mini Cooper, which won't be being used on salt covered roads over Winter, which round here will probably start in a couple of weeks and run until usually March. Given the original and near concours condition of the car, I don't want it to deteriorate over it's Winter hibernation, thus the extra protection of a controlled airflow environment in the 'bubble' I think to be prudent in this case.

While the Trophy is 40 years younger and can no doubt cope with a few more Winters out in the elements, I can envisage a time in the future where I'll want to do something similar, to make sure it keeps in good condition so I can continue to enjoy driving the thing as intended when I choose to. For me it's about maintaining the cars the best I can to enjoy using them, not for storing them away unused in the hope of some monetary reward down the line.. Perhaps I should have worded the 'storage' part of my initial post slightly differently?

I don’t think you should feel embarrassed about wanting to keep your cars stored properly. We have all seen a few cars that that have been stored and look like they have been pulled from a pond and I know that many garages are much damper than people realise with humidity easily into the 90’s. Cars stored in those conditions even for short periods will suffer unless you control airflow and humidity.
I use one of these as I share an open carport where an air cocoon is not really feasible.

I used to own and use a Carcoon, it was an outdoor type.
And worked very well.
I stored a Porsche 968 Club Sport in it for a good 3 years, It also had a battery charger with it to keep the battery in good health.
The car was kept totally dry all the time, it also kept the frost off .
I sold it 18 months ago, as i didnt need / use it anymore.
I seem to remember getting strong money for it too...

I've read online over here in Ireland that several people who have ordered from Carcoon have found it very frustrating and a complete pain dealing with them.
Some placed their orders over 4/5 months ago and they still cant get any details of when they might finally get their Carcoons.

I agree with your points on humidity, and as with yourself I've also seen cars which have been stored poorly indoors, which in some cases are in a worse state than if they'd been kept outdoors. Having secured an indoor space, I want to create the best environment I can for the Winter storage.

I've not heard of any issues particularly, though after a bit of looking online there seems to be some very mixed reviews/ experiences from folk dealing direct with the company, seems either brilliant or a bit rubbish... Food for thought.

Doh, I just realised that I have a carcoon that came with the 5GTT that I’ve never used, would have been fine for a Mini.
