Another Trophy has hit the market this week at over 20k - seems a hard price point at the minute to achieve as some have been up for some time.

Maybe the weather change in spring may bring some more buyers out ???


I think I would have painted the door handles and boot lock surround first before advertising it - however each to there own.

This looks the best value to me with 44k on the clock - (Dawn's old car)


same miles as above and another 7k - not sure why ???

Dawn had no takers at selling her car, She then put it on CC and it sold for £16k in March 2022.

Its been sitting at £20k since so almost a year and no takers.

Personally for me its going to be another 10/15 years before these cars are going for £20k or £20k+

It's an interesting one isn't it. We have seen a few examples go for £20k plus over the last couple of years and of course the sale of 001 which commanded around £48k on CC - that one can be put down as maybe a slight anomaly really. I think one of the issues recently has been a bit of a flood of Trophy's on the market which is making those at the higher prices, unless they're really exceptional examples, stick a little.

The problem is someone gets lucky and sells there 85k 7 owner trophy and gets £15500 everyone then jumps on the band wagon and then you have the dealers put another £1500 / 2000 on it to try and make a quick pound.

If I was a car dealer I personally would not want cars sitting around for a year no matter how special they are.
IF it was the dealer that paid £16,000 for dawns then even £17000 / 17500 to try and get it moving.

I think your right MarcB about Dawn’s car - a price point around 18k may get it gone - however the same dealer bought the Spyder too from the Renault collection and blew a fortune on that to move it on after it no had takers retail.

Dawns very nice car sold at what I consider to be the peak of Trophy values on CC etc even without the stock headlights and airbox. Including fees this car owes the dealer 17k without servicing, warranty etc so at 20k it still a little greedy.
I think Trophy fever maybe over for a while for the mediocre poor condition high mileage cars but I’m sure the very clean lower mileage documented cars will still attract the attention of collectors when one morning they wake up and are desperate to buy the greatest hot hatch ever made!

We can all thank Harry Metcalfe’s excellent YouTube video circa 2014 for reigniting the passion for the little red cars.

Just curious,does anyone have any data for prices achieved for other Trophy's sold in Switzerland/France?

Seeing as those countries got a lot less cars than the UK when launched,you would think prices would be even higher than those for sale in the UK.

At least there is "usually" a pretty decent choice for RHD cars compared to their continental cousins.

I'd imagine the more general economic climate and far less peaky car market will also have a bearing on more specialised cars like the Trophy.

Of course there will always be exceptions and exceptional cars for sale that are a general outlier compared to the regular market.

This may be a bit like a typical house buying boom whereby you hear just how much a neighbour has put their house up for sale, and we say ‘blooming heck have you heard how much they are asking?’ Only to notice that others are now also asking similar.
With a limited edition highly rated car such as the Trophy, it’s up to the owners to dictate the price as they have the cars, so if everyone asks for more money then prices will rise quickly and if you want one, then buy quickly.
The only snag is the current financial climate, so let’s see what the next 6 months brings.

Given I'll have splashed over 7 grand on mine by next month, long may this continue!

I agree, given some of the expenditure some of us engage in to keep these cars going, we certainly shouldn't be complaining that the values continue to gradually rise, which I think given the stature of the Trophy within the hot-hatch breed, even in light of the immediate current general economic situation, will continue to do so. Cars like the Trophy are never going to exist again and that reflects favourably on the demand there will be to experience / own / collect them going forward.

Add into this a dose of nostalgia and much like what's happened with classic Mini's, particularly original Mk1 Cooper and Cooper S's, to get a proper real S - not one of the fakes built up from a log book or half a registration plate attached to a piece of rusty metal in a barn - (of which there are increasing numbers) - some of the prices are eye-opening if not watering, especially when I can remember how much you could pick them up for in the not too distant past. Old fast Fords are another interesting market in this regard, with quite the following.

Well put Ed as usual - it’s definitely in all our interests to keep the values as strong as they can be - but I do see both sides. I’ve now attended quite a few Classic car sales just to get a handle on what is people’s perception of a nice car and how they’ve being described, one car that springs to mind was a Clio Williams 1 that was at the Silverstone NEC sale last November - Unrestored car ?? Does had more paint then Humber Bridge count as Unrestored and not a great job (full paint needed in my view) - the roof was bent and rippled which probably would need a roof skin to rectify - thousands still to spend to renew parts needed - if you could find them that is - Northy the Williams Legend told me most are un-buyable.

So in this instance I think they have got hung up on the 57000miles and low owners. - £36000


other instances is what this car makes which looks stunning after having a full restoration - however it had done 129000 miles and had 5 owners before the process of making it like new - estimate 30k


Every car has to be taken now on its own merits which is what I got told on my first post on this forum.

In the case of No63 - If I didn’t get it at such a low price it may have not been unjustified to spend the amount of money that I’ve spent so far (9k) - however the 1 owner status spurred me on - but I know the 83000 miles is not everyone’s cup of tea and would put people off.
