No.. You remove the small torq head screw and into the hole you push the hyperdermic needle thro the rubber seal..
This self seals again when you take it out .. Re fit screw when your done ...

I've checked the damper pressures this morning and after 8 years since last service the readings are as follows..

Drivers side - 75 PSI
Passenger side - 70 PSI

I don't know what they were originally gassed too but going by your figures Rik they're still around optimum pressures. Not bad after that period of time.

I checked mine today too. Last serviced with BG two years ago and both on ~60psi now. Do not know what they filled it to.

I note you say it's fine to add air. Shall I top up to 75 or leave as is? Is it not going to be compressed in normal use, heat and expand? dbf0d8cdab231784ebc1c2e6de7570db.jpgdd1f5eb695ab34dca9d4cd4513bf271f.jpg

I have got the bike shock pump but I'm still unsure how to connect to the BG fitting. What did you use.

Rik. I will be able to supply those Powerflex parts cheaper for you. I am an authorised Powerflex dealer.

Send me a message if you are interested. [emoji4]

@hawk18, I topped mine up so they were both at 75PSI. To be honest I only did this as they're coming off soon for service, otherwise I would have just left them. I wouldn't like to comment on how adding air will affect the performance. I think Rik was just suggesting that it's better to do so than running them at low pressures as this is likely to increase the wear rate and possibly lead to internal damage. I'd perhaps not top them up until they hit a reading of around 60PSI then top them up and look at getting them serviced in the near future.

View attachment 8823 Plus just for info and you owners struggling with finding gaitors like the OEM ones. Should be easy to open out to 25mm for our dampers
The power flex bump rubber and gaitor looks like it will do the trick. £40 delivered from demon tweeks

Hi Rik, I noticed that Sachs still makes several gaitors for many cars (VW, Skoda, Citroen etc...) that closely resemble that of the Trophy gaitor like this one for example. They're cheap and might well be a direct replacement at very low price

Nitrogen is clearly optimum but my point is that it's better to top up a little if they are very low than run de gassed..
The damper works well between 65-85 psi unloaded... So wheel off the ground.. What you do with that information is up to each owners choice..

That's good info Phil.. The more choice owner have the better...
I like the power flex one as it creates a much better seal than the std Sachs items.. But it's up to the customers

Yep, they've had a hard life! One give up on life as I was removing it from the damper, bless it.
