Looking at that price im thinking about selling mine now, Never thought I would as I have not touched it in a few years.
I would also say I have well over £2k in spare parts also.

Under 60k with private plate.

Been watching this with interest...Just short of £12250 + 6%... Good solid price, for a seemingly,,,, "mediocre" car.
Think i might need to put up my agreed value on my insurance....

I pulled out when I got to £12k. Needs too much money spending to get it to my standard and I wouldn't see my money back any time soon on it.

However, I did buy a 19k mile 172 Cup yesterday and fired up my other Trophy (Number 172) and its misfiring. Love these cars!

Doubt there are too any Cup's around with that sort of mileage on them.
Would love to try one someday.

Plus a known rotten braking system. A history of a failed head gasket. And optimistic good shocks which haven’t seen a service in years.

From a newbies perspective who has just bought a great low mileage car I feel lucky.

These cars have an almost cult following, under 500 cars available and good ones dont come up for sale that often.

I looked for ages before and after Stefans car and they all had either too many miles, mods or rust.

Even at the price we have just seen achieved for this I car, which in my opinion needs a 2k+ spend It’s not a lot of money compared with other icon type cars.

Also the spares are still relatively cheap for a modern classic.

Good point, I guess for someone just coming into Trophy ownership the small ruckus this has caused might be hard to understand, we have all been looking through the window of anything over £10k having to have that bit extra and this one has not got a lot of that. My view on this one is known but not important to whoever bought it but it’s got a lot of ?’s for what will be a £15k car.
Perhaps this is the one that has raised the ceiling and we ought to start thinking about them differently.

It’s brilliant news for current owners. And yes Big bills on a Clio ain’t actually big against say an e46/e92 m3. They looked big when cars were £5k. But if an owners happy to part with £13k for a car, a £1k suspension bills only a small percentage further.

The only real shame is as the value goes higher and higher. They just won’t be driven.

In the last 18 months seeing any 1*2 on the road has become rarer. They used to be everywhere, just like the Fiesta ST is now. It's a generational thing and the Trophy, or a 172 cup to a degree, being the picks of the bunch will only be going one way in price and it will take us, as owners, to considerately revealuate our perception of what these cars are worth. Covid has certainly accelerated the market. Congratulations to the new owner, he or she will ultimately make money in the long run, you can't lose, whilst also hopefully enjoying the car too every now and again.

As many cars before them, their like will never be made again, and we are the lucky few who have them.

The out of step sales prices do seem to be peculiar to CC. Nowhere else have cars been making these prices. Good news for CC as they will become the main recognised platform for selling these cars. The one on PH with similar mileage but on the face of it a far better car for a couple of £k more hasnt moved and yet it’s a car you can view, test drive and no doubt have a deal on.

What is the general view, if you were to sell would you drop it on CC ?

It’s a no brainer really but as per my earlier comment the price was driven by just two committed buyers this time. The next one or two will be interesting.

Totally agree with @hoolio above.

The next 2 / 3 cars need to be of similar miles and condition and see what they fetch.

Currently one on eBay is number No493 and its only sitting at £3500 but on saying that it does have 123k and needs work.

So what’s the score with CC. Can you dip your toe in the water if you’re selling and set a reserve at say £10k at no cost if it doesn’t make it

If you want to sell then go for it.

I think CC has a completely different audience to Ebay / Auto Trader / Piston Heads IMO
It seems like its more of a mature auction where the people who are willing to part with money go and know what they are looking for go to actually buy a car and not kick tyres or haggle for a tank of fuel.

I personally think that the Trophy's with 40 to 70k are worth the watching to see where they go price wise.

If you check the FAQ
It reads that you can discuss a reserve with them but has to be mutually agreed.

can be lowered or removed. It can be increased thru formal written notice which then has to be agreed.

CC can also themselves pay the difference to help shift a car. If the top bid didn’t reach but came close. Assume basically they loose a bit of the buyers premium but still have a sale which is better than no buyers premium.

so I guess with 42 going for £12250 on their site there is now some precedent to be able to discuss a sensible reserve with them.

i doubt you can however turn around and say mines 66k but nicer so I want £13k minimum for it. End of the day they want the cars to shift.

agree with Marc, it’s perhaps a new market audience. Perhaps folks watching Harry with his trophy and Harris with his rallye thinking these guys can buy most things yet have these for fun. Catchpole bought a 182 not long back for a laugh.
