Yeah back in the late 90's,early 2000's
Type-R's were as common as Golfs here in Ireland.
They were just regarded as a really good car from Japan that pretty much anyone could afford to buy and own.
They still are cheap to run but buying one now is quite a bit more difficult and expensive to get behind the wheel.
