Mine has just ticked over 48,500 miles. I wouldn’t be taking less than 12k the way prices are at the minute.

Do you not think thats a little low ?

If there is cars going for £8/9k with 100k+ on the clock I would have thought a car under 50k with very subtle mods and amazing history would be more the £15k mark.

Im not selling mine & most defiantly not buying but I just cant get how the pricing can be so high for a high milage car but not that high for a low milage car.

I know its supply and demand , You get what you pay for and all that jazz but clearly the market is there for cars with lower milage that are garage queens with very good history to hit £15k+

I still think £15k is strong for a Trophy, more from the perspective of the number of people out there who would be willing to pay that. The cars that are being bought are by owner/enthusiasts not collectors. To escalate prices they need to fit into the collector profile which I’m not sure they do. Maybe in time but I think for now there are sufficient cars out there at £8k ish to satisfy the demand of people who just want to own and drive.

From my own perspective I’ve owned my car about 5 yrs and although I like it i could never like the car enough to spend £15k+ on one. I’m constantly teetering on putting it up for sale as although the car is lovely condition in every respect I just don’t really get any sort of satisfaction out of driving it. It’s ok for an hours squirt around but I soon just get bored with it.

That said I’m no judge if cars to hang onto. I owned just about all of the Escort RS range during the 70s and 80s and sold them all. Then owned them again in the late 90s and sold them again !!!!!!!

The way I see it is that if you dont ask you dont get.
There "Could" (I use the term loosely) be a bunch of owners with low milage immaculate well documented cars who put them up for £14/16k and they could sell.

Do you not think £7600 for a car thats got near on 109k on the clock is good money ?

If prices are high, The car is right and someone wants something bad enough they will pay it in any walk of life.

Im guessing if you really wanted one and a mint one you would pay the going rate which as you know could be anything north of £15/20/25/30k

Like I say I just dont understand why someone is willing to spray £8k on a car thats got 100k on the clock when they could stretch that little further for something thats sub 40k with exceptional history and I mean exceptional.

I know if I was to sell mine what I would ask and what I would take if offered.

Anyway each to there own,

Good money. Even better considering the time of year and current economic climate.

agreed, though right now, globally, the used car market for anything remotely fun/limited are going like mad. Some of the JDM specials have doubled in money in the last 6-12 months even with the current economic climate.

I understand everything you are saying Marc but I just don’t think the buyers are out there with the appetite to pay £15k + for one of these. That’s exactly why buyers will pay £8k to get it out their system. Why pay £15k for a clio when you can pay a bit more for a Ford RS which is seen as a copper bottomed investment

Yeah of all the car markets the JDM one seems to have gone totally crazy over the last
6 months.

Some JDM cars from the 1990's and early 2000's were already getting very expensive over the last year or two
but it's hard to justify some of the latest prices at auction.

You will need a pretty healthy bank balance to get something like a R34 now, probably north of £100k easily now for a good one.
The American market is increasingly having a big impact on prices.
Many cars are being bought and stored until they reach 25 years old so they can qualify for entry to America.

I've been watching a few EK9 Civic Type-R's and their prices are ridiculous now.
A low mileage one sold for over £57k back in the summer

True! There seemed to be a surge over summer but I initially thought that was just down to people having holiday money burning a hole in their pocket. That and a "sod it, you only live once" approach.

Maybe a bit of everything at play, very interesting though. I know having the Trophy to mess on with helped me through the first lockdown.

One with 120k recently went for £7500 on the same website.

This one had sat for the last 5 years, had an EML pre mot "possibly due to an exhaust fault" wore Federal tyres and didn't mention re Sachs rebuild. A reasonable price taking all in to account.

Amazing, the price of that EK9!
