2005 Renault Clio 182 Trophy #465
155.000 miles 3 previous owners HPI clear x2 keys unmodified
Unfortunately the time has come to move on my trophy after 3 years of ownership. After I bought the car in 2020 I embarked on a refresh to make the trophy into the reliable usable car that it is today. During the refresh in 2020 the rear beam and fuel tank were removed from the car. The whole rear end of the car was taken back to bare metal and any surface rust treated. Multiple coats of POR15 followed and finally dynatol underbody wax was applied, this closely resembles the factory finish. Before reassembly the beam, brake hose bracket and all 3 exhaust brackets were powdercoated (although some surface rust is creeping back again) and the following parts were replaced: Rear beam bushes, Rear ABS sensors, 2x rear calipers, brake hoses and long steel brake line, handbrake calipers, brake disc spacers, cup rear shocks.
At the front the sachs dampers were refurbished, powdercoated and extra scraper seals added by cornering force. The original trophy springs were powdercoated and new top mounts were fitted. The bottom arms were repainted and fitted with new ball joints and bushes. The front hubs were painted and fitted with new wheel bearings and ABS sensors. The front brake calipers were refurbished and discs, pads (replaced again a couple of months ago) and brake hoses replaced. New front arch liners (now NLA) were also fitted.
Engine wise in 2020 I replaced the dephaser and belt kit, cam seals, dephaser solenoid seal water pump, auxiliary kit (replaced again a couple of months ago), thermostat, all 3 engine and gearbox mounts, power steering pump, radiator and lower mounts, AC condenser, crank position sensor and wiring plug, inlet and exhaust manifold gaskets, top radiator hose, expansion tank, spark plugs and alternator. In 2021 I replaced 4x injectors, thermostat housing gasket, inlet manifold pressure sensor, coolant tube and O ring, starter motor, battery, sump gasket and HT leads.
In 2021 the gearbox started crunching into 3rd gear slightly. A replacement was sourced and sent to a gearbox specialist to be checked. It was found to be in really good condition internally so was fitted with a new selector seal and reassembled. When Fitting the gearbox I replaced the clutch, crankshaft oil seal, both driveshafts, Gearbox end cap and O ring, clutch cable. I also replaced the gear linkage bushes. While the subframe was off I got it blasted and painted along with the subframe brace brackets and bottom arm to body braces.
In 2022 the steering rack sprung a leak so I bought a low mileage rack and got it rebuilt by a specialist. This was then fitted along with new inner track rods and boots, track rod ends, steering rack mounting bushes and a power steering pressure switch. Also in 2022 I replaced inner and outer ARB bushes and the wiper motor.
All the parts that I have replaced are ether genuine or quality aftermarket (febi, delphi, skf etc)The body although highly presentable is not perfect. There is some lacquer peel starting on the O/S/R of the roof, there is a scratch on the back window and the O/S front wing has a crack that's just visible with the bonnet shut. The car has KTEC front splitter painted satin black. The turinis were repainted in 2021 and are fitted with Michelin PS3's with 5mm + of tread.
The interior is in very tidy condition overall. The recaro seats are in great condition with the drivers bolster being replaced in 2020, the heater control panel was also replaced with a good used one due to the common flaking issue. A snappy retrimmed steering wheel is also fitted.
I have pictures of most of the work and a big wedge of invoices for parts. Unfortunately there is very little history from before my ownership. The car is MOT'd until June 2024.
Overall Its a great example of a useable trophy that drives brilliantly.
I also have some spare parts available by separate negotiation including 1x trophy offset turnini and some new trophy eibach springs.
