Finally got round to an MOT! Needed a wiper and a bulb. Advisory for where I topped the power steering fluid up prior to the test and spilt. But a clean MOT now and I can start enjoying the Trophy again over 3 years since it was last on the road!
I've for sure being punished for allow 338 to be off the road for so long...
An exhaustive list has finally come to an end fingers crossed 🤞
To get her to the point she's ready to drive again I've had to:
Replace the 2 rear ABS sensors... Sounds a simple job but having to remove the rear...
Another little update for #338 as it's slowly making its way back onto the road...
Since last time she's had:
2x rear tyres Toyo TR1 we'll see how these go they may end up replaced with PS3.
I've removed the worn original sachs dampers as per the photo and replaced these with standard Cup...
And a little under bonnet cleaning, I know they didn't come with the engine cover I just prefer the looks tbh, fuel rail cover is off as the paint is drying 👍
It has also now had a new alternator as the old one was goosed! Done using the jubilee clip method of compressing the tensioner, which I must say made things much easier!
It's been a good while...
And I'm currently in the progress of putting the trophy back on the road after a 3 year break.
I've stripped all the arch liners out and given everything a clean. Currently fitting new discs and pads and getting my spare set of Sachs dampers ready for fitting so the...
Been a while since I updated 338,
Just been looking after the general maintenance of it, a
Today it's had a full service and while I was in there I investigated a problem of the car not getting up to temperature,
I found this to be a failed Thermostat housing gasket, also the source of a...
I may just got OE then to be fair as new OE should still be an improvement over 90k old bushes
Also just put a brand new set of PS3 on the front as during the driveshaft work I noticed they needing doing too!
Still loving the trophy, I've put another 10k on it or there abouts.
Today's I have changed the Nearside driveshaft for a new unit as it had become notchy on full lock...
I noticed the outer ARB bushed need changing while I was doing this so my question is should I go for powerflex or OE?
Been a while since I've last updated, I still haven't got round to fitting the brembos! However I have done a few little interior bit to tidy the car up:
I've fitted the leather pretensioner covers on the seats as I hated the way it looked with them exposed.
Also today I removed the original...
Yeah I'm sure Renault wanted nearly £500 to do it, over all I'm glad I had it done as he pulled some nasty bits of sealer out the oil strainer in the sump so pretty relieved it was caught.
Got the sump gasket sorted today, I can definitely recommend RPM Automotive in scunthorpe, Tom there seems to know his Clio/Renault stuff.
They cleaned the little mess it had made underneath from where it had been leaking too.
For reference it cost £162 all in but that was all genuine parts...
I've heard mixed reviews on them, I had a set on my mini and I couldn't complain about them, but having read conflicting reports about the Clio with them I opted for something else,
On another note my caliper adapter for the brembo brakes arrived today, so I can retain standard 280mm discs...
I pressed the originals out in a vice with and a few sockets, they came out surprisingly easily to be honest.
Getting them in as they are 1 piece bushes was interesting, I ended up using an old BMW mini control arm bush tool I had at the back of the garage (had a JCW r53), they went in a treat...
Treated the trophy to poly bush dog bone mounts today, a nice simple upgrade and I have to be honest I went for the Flo-flex mount kit and I was sceptical.
However they are slightly firmer than the originals without giving awful vibration through the cabin / gear leaver with a nice difference...
I've actually managed to source a pair, so hopefully it'll be a nice straight forward conversion now,
I'm in no rush as I know I still need some braided lines and some fresh pads for the brembos, I don't know anyone daft enough to use second hand pads ?
I think I'll drop some fresh oil in it too as I don't like the idea of reusing oil for all its only about 100 miles old.
Picked up some brembos off a 197 for a good price so in the future I see a brembo conversion coming.
Shouldn't be too much hassle I've decided to go down the route of...
He seems like he knows what he's taking on having discussed it at some length with them, he's saying a couple of hours labour which I think is fair enough,
I've tackled engine out jobs on the drive namely a b5 S4 with rattling manifolds but I really don't fancy spending my days off crawling...
Got my car back from Renault yesterday, had a "free" health check as dealers do, advised the sump gasket has a weep,
out of curiosity I asked for a price for them to do it... £475 plus VAT I was expecting it to be expensive but wow!
I now have the car booked in at a local specialist to have...
Dropped 338 off at Renault this morning for a service as they had a deal on for £149,
normally I always do my own services but I thought I'd give dealer servicing a whirl
I will do another one myself long before it is due again at the dealer and I'll continue to service the car twice as often...
Quick update, treated the trophy to a retrimmed wheel which arrived today, can't wait to get it fitted, I've had this car a little bit now and it's been an absolute pleasure
Hi all,
New owner of 338 here
It seem right that I continue the project 338 thread in the way it has been going,
One of the first jobs I've decided to do is get the steering wheel sent away to snappy,
I have bought a spare wheel as I want to keep the original, that has been sent away today...
