Why? Because i say what i think? Im insulting no one. Im stimulating debate. Im passionate about cars and liike to discuss them. But i dont play the corporate game, sorry. If you have some hard data on the dampers get it up here, and prove me wrong.
I agree. They are used in motorsport to prevent damper fade. Look where they are used. 4x4's. Why? Because the suspension takes a pounding. Sports bikes. Why? Because the suspension takes a pounding and they run stiff springs. Rally cars. Why? Because the suspension takes a pounding.

LOL @ Jeremy.
Thats the marketing schpeel that is on the Renault website and that was regurgitated on every review. Do a search on google for clio Trophy resevoir damper and nearly every 'review' just copies and pastes whats on the renault web site. Please do not insult my intelligence that...
But until you compare a recevoir damper with a non resevoir damper AT THE SAME DAMPER SETTING you wont know any improvement it makes, just as non of the useless journos know. Assumption is the mutha of all f ups.
Science is science. Saying something makes somthing better without testing it...
Nik,
The Clio Williams is a better car than the valver over all. Now the Williams has a stiffer damper. To say that the Williams is a better car because it has a stiffer damper is rediculous. Its a better car because it was improved a small amount in a number of key areas.
The Trophy is...
But could you not get the same effect with a conventional damper?
A stiffer conventional damper would:
Increase camber compliance (contact patch)
Improve turn in
Reduce body roll
All the things the Trophy dampers do, with the exception of the heat protection the resevoir offers. So...
Have you ever driven a new completely standard Williams? I havnt driven a Trophy so i dont make rash comments on whetehr it is 'better' than other cars.
The Trophy certainly isnt a better car than a Williams if you have need for a rear suit carrier
I think my replies have been informative and educational. Im not arguing the Trophy isnt a great car. Ive said it before and ill say it again, if i diodnt have 2 of the best condition Clio Williams' in the country id consider one.
However. Irrespective of how good it is, imo its not an...
Well you shouldnt need a bump stop unless your planning on taking some hump back bridges at full tilt.
If your talking about camber compliance i think that is a facet more of stiff dampers rather than resevoir dampers per se. Ie the stiff the damper / spring set up the better the camber...
Just out of interest what other cars have you owned?
Does anyone here actually know how a damper works? Doesnt sound like it
A damper is a tube filled with a fluid and a piston that converts movement energy (kinetic energy) to heat energy (thermal energy). So as you hit a bump the...
Well if you wanted a smooth ride the Kia Rio beats the Trophy on that handling characteristic. If its a priority, you could say it out handles a Trophy.
But i agree in principle we are talking about sports handling, not egg on dash balancing properties.
You say it doesnt 'handle as well' as cars that cost 3 times as much. Define handle?
Handling just means the cars characteristics. It doesnt mean a car is good or bad. The MR2 turbo mk2's are said to 'handle badly' because they have a tendency for the back ends to come round. But its not 'bad...
Driving your car faster means your using more revs = driving it harder. In my experience those that speed also acelerate more quickly up to that illegal speed = thrashing.
Therefore as a generalisation those that cuaght speedling and lose their licence are more likely to thrash their cars...
Drive a toyota supra twin turbo on track and youll understand how unstable a hot hatch is under braking and feel how stable a 'proper race car' is under braking. All hot hatches do it. The trophy does too, ive seen it in videos. If it doesnt your not braking hard enough.
They are unstable...
I cant believe people have so little common sense.
If Renault put the wrong oil in - make them change it - FREE
If Renault steel your mobil 1 - Tell the service manager youre going to the Police - Get it changed FREE
Renault do these things because people dont complain. If you know...
LOL @ 12k. That is WAY overpriced. Can get a new one for 12,800.
Worth about 10k IMO. Especially as it will have been thrashed by some clot who speeds.
'Doesnt stand a chance on the bends' - LOL
I have neither car so am unbiased. You cant argue the Civic is better built. You cant really argue its faster in a straight line. It is both of these things.
As for handling, well what people forget is that its subjective. How a car...
By the way if anyone cares Total oil available from total garages is elf oil. Same stuff packaged differently. Elf own total. So you can get elf oil easily if you want it.
