Thanks for the costings, even with someone else doing the work £20k would probably get something similar which is a good price! Need to start hunting for land!
Just read through the whole thread, such a great project! I would love to do similar although I think it is getting harder now to find land and get planning. What do you think the rough total cost came in at (if you don't mind me asking)?
I got the Motrio (sp?) version from the dealer, it is the budget Renault version, but for some reason it had a longer warranty and was a bit cheaper. I think it was around £60 fitted. I tried others from ECP but it just didn't fit right, so ended up getting Wests Renault to fit it.
just get...
good do call,I heard about this company on here before but could not find them again when I searched on Google. I am not far from MK so could easily pop over to see them.
I have been using mine as a daily driver since June, coming from a E61 5 series BMW and it is not ideal but you can live with it. I am doing around 200 miles a week most weeks.
A trophy is a good option from a classic Mini. Don't worry about tyres, you can get cheaper that are still decent or...
I also contacted Sachs and BG with no success. I did find a company that makes gaiters but as I got the garage to swap my dampers before the MOT I didn't get chance to try to use the original covers to get ones made.
There are a lot of specialists about, I spent a bit of time on here and Cliosport and found that 519 was in the same town and had a good reputation. It is worth travelling to a good place.
Mine goes well, it is a bit lumpy on tickover when cold but I think they all do that, but as this is my first 182/Trophy I don't really have a benchmark for performance. I think lower mpg shows timing not being perfect, my mpg is slightly lower than expected which is why I think it may not be...
Just to give you an idea 519 Automotive (specialist in Bedford) quotes £450 for a cambelt. I am not sure if this includes the aux belt. It does not sound like the price you have is too bad.
I would take it to a known Renaultsport expert, it seems like a lot of general garages can sometimes not...
That looks great, I bought a wheel already done which is very good, but that looks even better. I have a spare wheel so I may get that one done as well.
I contacted Sachs, they directed me to BG, who said they could not do anything. I think I asked this before and someone recommended the company that prepare the Twingo for rallying that uses a similar Sachs unit. I had planned on trying to get some made, I found a place called runfold plastics...
I emailed Pure about this, with a 2.5in pipe welded to the cat this will fit directly onto their current system, so doing this removes the olive joint which is a bit of a weak point.
The other advantage is it uses the standard exhaust, so at a later stage you could decat, or fit a sports cat...
That is sounding positive, I would like to sleeve the joint on the cat to the centre pipe which would be straightforward I would think as they wouldn't need a flange on the end.
I will check with them again, the emails suggested it was decat or sports cat only, but an adaptor could be the option, I want to keep the cat so no messing about at MOT time but don't need a £200 sports cat. The other option is a Piper, but I would prefer the Pure system, I also like the way...
I came close to buying one a couple of weeks back, but bottled out due to cost. Nick was very responsive to my email questions, but I don't want a decat so it means nearly £800 for a full system. If they did a system using the original cat I probably would have gone for it.
I am still in the...
I think the Chinese suppliers may not be the best, although on ebay there are companies selling remoulds that have similar tread patterns to the big suppliers for around £50 a tyre in the same size as the standard 16in. Not sure how good they would be, they must be used in far worse conditions...
I was OK on the PS3s last winter, although it did get bogged down in the snow in a car park at a customer I was visiting and needed a push but I got by OK. It was certainly better than the 5 series BMW I had a the time!
I am thinking of winter tyres, I have a spare set of Turinis but the tyres...
Also you need to add VAT and shipping to the CF pricing (BG include this in the £430), with unpinning and new valves I paid CF £225+VAT and £15 for shipping. I am not sure if BG fit new valves or unpin them.
BG can powder coat at £60+VAT for the pair, which is a lot cheaper than CF as Simon...
I agree with this, I went to see him and was impressed with his setup and how the dampers perform, he certainly knows his stuff. Mine needed a small patch welding into the spring platform and he did this as well which brought the price up to £500 inc powder coating. My only issue was the damage...
I had mine re-done once, when they arrived they were hanging out the box, the 2nd time there were chips around the lip of the spring platform but were packaged well. This was not done in transit in my view but during assembly or testing. I don't really think it is acceptable as it is a weak...
Mine took a long time, email is usually best to get in touch but the lack of communication is not great. My dampers are on the car now and they are great, so much better than what came off. Not too firm either.
One thing to watch if they have been powder coated by CF, mine came back damaged due...
I think the biggest rust trap is the plate which the spring sits on, it does have a hole in it but if it blocks then the dirt builds up and causes rust, resulting in them rusting through. Although the body rusts at the mounts the metal is quite thick there.
Waxoyl is OK, but I think things have moved on really, Dinitrol or Bilt Hamber are probably a bit better to apply and look better and longer lasting. The main reason for Bilt Hamber is that it is clear and does not need a thick coating. I own a couple of classic Minis so always need to keep up...
That system looks nice, especially the rear mounts, they look a good solution compared with the crappy ones you can buy now. I am looking for a cat back for mine, so interested one of these.
Sorry, another post, I have just double checked the pricing from BG I had today.
£430 for a full refurb inc VAT and postage which I think is good (I am sure it used to be a lot more than this), this does not include blasting and powder coating. Powder coating can be done for an additional...
