Halford's own brand is produced for them by Comma and is bascially a re-brand of their Syner-G product which is a hydro-cracked mineral based oil where crude oil has been refined to the point where the molecular structure has completely changed. TITAN Pro Race S is an excellent ester based oil...

I just use Halfords fully synth 5w-40 as it meets all the requirements and standards stipulated by Renault and usually there's an offer/promotion on at the time of purchase. Personally I don't see the point of spending lots on fancy oils, unless of course you are going to enter a 24hr endurance...

If it's the MK1 Focus RS, it's in band k (£260) but so are lots of other performance cars pre March 2006, BMW M3, Porsche 996/Boxster S, Nissan 350Z, Mazda RX8, Honda S2000, Golf R32, Mitsi Evo 8 (imports £200!), etc....yes, I'm browsing potentials too! :D

The 182/Trophy is in band J (186-200k/km CO2) so VED for 2011/2012 has gone up a tenner to £245.

Did an oil change last night using my old Pela pump that draws the oil out through the dip stick hole. Bish, bash, bosh, all done in 20 minutes without touching a jack, axle stand or getting oil anywhere. Filled the car with 5l of Halfords 5/40 fully synth and since I needed new screw drivers...

Do they require 182 cup top mounts and spring cups for these dampers or will the trophy ones do?

They won't fit unfortunately. The bolt spacing on struts/hub on the standard 172 are 56mm, the Trophy/Cup are 60mm.

If it is anything like this one, they are supposed to be really good quality system. I can't comment on the noise though but I would suspect it will be a lot louder than standard.

I have to admit, I have been checking out autotrader for 197's and in particular the F1 R27. But just concerned with the running costs and also in terms of driving thrills the 197 doesn't match the rawness you get with the Trophy(?). Having said that, I've not driven one yet.

Depends on what you are going to be using the laptop for. If it's just for surfing the web, then a laptop with Windows7 will do fine. Decent ones can be had for around £400.

It's not illegal to sell HID kits! If a car passes MOT with them fitted, doesn't mean it's legal. However, there will be changes to the law with regards to MOTs. Come December 2011, all aftermarket HID's will mean an automatic MOT failure. Just thought people should know.
