I had this problem although after turning the engine off and coming back to it a hour later the lights didn't come on.
Took it local dealers and they said it needed a new brake pedal switch. ordered and arrived the same day, fitted and i had the car back. All done under warranty!

if your not overly keen to do the full service as like you have stated the aux belt would be due earlier, you could always look at doing an oil change now, giving it 5k of running then doing the full service come 24k.
a lot of people on here do an extra oil change half way between service...
i got the car with 10k on the clock but don't think the front pads had been changed..... but you never know.
think i'll just get the pads changed at the 24k service and once the discs go i'll get a kit from yozza or someone similar.
