It’s often a false economy to buy what appears to be a cheap Trophy. The reality is that it’ll likely cost ££££’s to put right. Belts, tensioners and Sachs rebuilds will clear £2,000, and that’s before addressing any other issues.
Thanks. There's no better feeling than going out in her. I love the old school cars and love the attention she gets.
I wonder how these new Focus RS owners feel when Cossie's still steal the limelight, haha.
Spotted at 16:45 on 03/08/2017, next to the traffic lights next to the cemetery on Benton Road, Heston. Young lad was driving.
I only caught the first part of the reg "YK55***". I was in my Sierra Cosworth in the opposite direction.
It looked very nice.
You're right @dablk, and I guess engineering has became a victim of itself.
Cossie's are great, but are rough diamonds compared to the perfect engines of today. Engineering has came so far that almost all performance cars have became generic. I can't see many (if any) of the modern day cars...
At a guess, I'd say it's somewhere around £7.5-8k in today's market. Someone else may disagree.
I'd be prepared to pay big bucks for the right one. But as said I don't have the cash in my hand yet so
I can't get involved in offers etc until my other car sells first.
Good luck with whatever...
Thanks for sharing this with me. It looks to be a nice car, but I'm going to be looking at a bog standard one as my aim will be to get one concours standard.
Still, I've got the little sideshow of selling a Cossie first.
Right, I'm going to take the plunge and list my Ford Sierra RS Cosworth for sale, with a view to buying a Trophy.
It's a 1988 F registration, early "Sapphire" rear wheel drive model (the most desirable drivetrain). It has 98,000 miles and runs standard power of 204bhp. It is diamond white...
That is true. I'll see what happens. I'm not in a rush either way. It seems that Saph Cossie's are increasing at £2k per year. Trophy's are rising at around £1k per year, so in that respect, if the current trend continues, it'll be worth waiting.
No doubt I'd regret it, but I hardly use the Cossie and I'm not the type of person who likes my cars to sit in storage just looking nice. They should be driven. Finding the time to get it out is difficult at the moment. It's not as if they can be used as daily drivers any more.
At least Clio's...
To be honest I'd probably buy both a Trophy and a rare coloured 182 in the long run. It would still leave considerable change in my pocket if I sold my Sierra Cosworth to fund them.
She's not bad for her age. There's always someone with a better one out there though.
Regrettably I may have to sell her in the near future. I don't really drive her as much as I should and I need the money for other ventures. At the moment I'm trying to think of ways to keep her though.
It looks like Trophy's are inflating at £1k per year at the moment.
But....you've gotta buy something that you're gonna use too. There's little point in having a garage queen and not doing anything with all that untapped fun.
If I have a preference, I'd go for a Trophy and a petrol blue and...
So, I'm all aware of Trophy prices, but what's the going rate for liquid yellows and petrol blues. I've seen them circa £5-6k, but they don't seem to sell at that price.
