UPDATE
Having bought the car on 31st December we finally put it through its MOT yesterday and passed with no advisories! Since the last update we have been doing further work to tidy her up, mainly cleaning the front suspension etc. to rid it of CV joint grease. Replaced the outer CV joint...
I bought some clear PVC tubing off flebay. I tried a couple of internal diameters and settled for 16mm. Lightly coat the spring with a light oil (3 in1), put the tube in boiling water to soften it and then quickly push it on.
I think the original item is more rubberised but the PVC serves...
Well the first set arrived in the post today. If I'm honest the red isnt quite as bright as the original but other than that I hope you all agree that they look pretty good.
Original and New
Fitted.
We've been really busy since the last post. Will update more later on but just thought i would let everyone see progress the front struts. I'll let the pictures do the talking.
Before.
After the @Rik Perry treatment, plus resparyed springs, new plastic protection tubing at the bottom and my...
@TonkaTruck well spotted. I did a double check before ordering and made the correction. Below is a picture of an actual decal - I have a full set on there way to me in tonights post so will get better pictures up when they arrive.
@SharkyUK thanks. I have been advised that the first set is currently in production and with a bit of luck I should have them early next week . I will post up pictures so that everyone can see the quality.
No they were all the same. I have researched this to death an the flag/red swoosh is a generic Sachs decal that then had further info printed on it in the middle silver square and the bottom. The new style is of the curbing on a race track and has the "ZF" rather than "Sachs" logo. The rear...
Hi All
As Rik has been doing such sterling work on refurbing Sachs dampers I thought it was time that we had some new decals to go with them to the original design.
I have had the artwork reproduced then the rest of the decal made up as below in these low res images:-
What you...
Thanks for all the positive comments. The exhaust is a pattern replacement and whilst it does look a little skinny it doesn't make too much noise!
In regard to the rear tyres I intend to change them as soon as I can. The fronts are brand new Bridgestone.
I'm not sure if it comes across well...
Well 3 weeks after we took ownership and it's coming along rather well. We fitted a new wiper stalk with variable delay so the inside is well and truely finished. As you might have read previously we were having starter probelms. A repalcement stater, heat shield (not a job we want to do again...
Despite the rubbish weather over the weekend we have managed to get the bodywork sorted, with just the arch liners to fit. Only took a couple of pictures in the garage.
Marked up the cill to ensure exact positioning of the decal
The bad news is that the starer motor/solonoid is on...
338 - 51 & 15 year old son, but ageing rapidly as having finished the cosmetic rebuild (photos later) the starter /solenoid is playing up and by the looks of it is going to be a pig of a job to change.......
Thanks for your help Mike, I'll make sure we fit it before we refit the grill and bumper. I've managed to figure out the locations for all the pieces and have fitted the piece with the white clip that goes under the off side scuttle panel. The last piece goes in the nearside wheel arch against...
Thanks Hoolio got the boot sesl sorted - looks much better now. We've made a bit more progress and the inside is now complete with the fitting of the new pedals.
We have also given the engine bay and front arches a full degrease and clean. I took the underbody protection off and also...
Well we have made real progress this weekend and save for a new steering wheel and fitting the new padals the interior is complete.
"New" heater controls and and new gator.
Drivers seat belt looks like new....
We cleaned and polished all door shuts and refreshed all the rubber...
Thanks for all the positive comments. To cut a long story short the previous owner had intended to do what I am doing but for one reason or another couldn't continue. I suspect it wasn't in the best of shapes when he bought it as he only put 200 miles on it before starting the strip down, and...
Further progress. Seats looking much better..
We've also painted one of the doors handles (can you tell which)
The front and rear bumper, roof strips, door mirror covers, and cills have gone of the spray shop for a refurb and should be ready this time next week.
Tried to order new...
l'm certain that there isn't s leak. It has been stood without door rubbers, side trims, and rear boot catch. Add to that it was under cover and it's easy to see how damp can get in and then be trapped. We only used the dehumidifier to help speed up the princess of drying out after the carpet...
I've just realised that i have posted this in the "For Sale" section which it certainly is not. How do I move it or can someone else please move it!
Thanks
Afternoon all.
As you might have seen from the owners register I took possession of 338 on New Years Eve. It's a totally standard 74k mile car that needs a "little" tlc. Thought it might be worth starting a thread on the re-build / re-commisioning. It's been stood for 15 months like this under...
Kingpin, if you click on the op's profile and then click on messages the 4th post down has a couple of pictures on it that show the extent of the "refurb" . Basically front and rear bumpers removed, cills removed, headlights removed and bullets and other side trims removed. It will certainly...
