Did the gearbox upper mount this morning and that was a doddle, the Evol racing mount is on and the car is transformed.
Given mine is a daily driver I'm going to run it for a while but likely I'll just powerflex the original dogbone as it makes the car a little too 'drony'.
In trying to find and cure an exhaust vibrate / rattle I have decided to replace and repair anything to the exhaust system and associated brackets and joints.
I decided to go for the upgraded cat to manifold bolt and fittings along with a new 'donut' gasket from my local factors.

These do the trick nicely and with the blue lettering they look almost the same.
The other half has a brand new C Max, gutless but comfortable and economical to drive.
I still would chose to drive the Trophy no matter where I am heading, you cannot beat the smile it puts on your face on a twisty country road.
I'm not overly bothered about internal cabin rattle, it's more engine and exhaust rattles that play on me as I always think something is about to die.
The attached image was the state of my upper mount and has reduced noise already without touching the gearboxes mounts.
Here's hoping when all...
I have decided to bite the bullet and replace my engine mounts and gearbox lower twisted 'dogbone' mount to try and eliminate an unfound vibration / rattle noise. Given the T has just passed 129,000 miles and has had a strong history of mechanical work, I have got my hands on OEM upper engine...
Hi Daniel,
I have dug up the spec sheet and you require 12.5mm PU tube for this application and this is supplied in 1m lengths.
This can be purchased through any of our UK retailers, POTN are a dealer that is good for spares, if you give them part number ‘PU TUBE 12.5’.
Any issue’s please...
Eibach UK replied a few days ago and have checked the spec sheet and their supplier has stock of 12.5mm PU tubing which is factory fitted to the springs on the Trophy.
Ideally after just the washers / spring cup for 1 side of the cat to manifold spring joint, one side of mine had bits missing and I only replaced it a couple of years ago.
Please let me know if anyone has anything going spare.
Thank you
Despite getting 2 garages to look at the exhaust and mountings I have finally found the cat to manifold joint had parts missing so the spring joint was loose, have grabbed a few washers and a thicker bolt so just fitted and all seems good.
Handle all the salvage auctions for the company I work for and wish I had something exciting like this, although very sad to see such a low mileage one braking :(
Have had another look this evening and can see no signs of anything untoward, I did find a 16mm bolt that secures the rear shield in place near the mid section that I hadn't put a larger washer so I've replaced that tonight.
1 of the spring clamps at the cat to manifold joint felt loose, is...
I did think this after the cat was replaced but before it was replaced, the problem was cured by me tinkering underneath without doing anything to the exhaust. After fitting the new cat (mechanic) the vibration / rattle seems to have come back albeit at a sligthly different RPM range.
Popped...
Great good to know, some of the mounts to the chassis were a little loose so will look to replace and retighten.
Do you know what the clips are called that join the two shields together? I will try and get a picture on the weekend.
I played around with them on the weekend and bent the shield...
Mine is still vibrating at certain rpms despite getting better rear powerflex mounts, a new cat and fitting the larger washers. I cured it on the weekend by wiggling the centre hestshields but no idea how and the problem has come back. Any suggestions on something better to join the two centre...
Oh dear, assume you have had some engine problems like me? In the 8 years of ownership I've had 3 cam belt changes, 4 aux belt kits, exhaust valves, water pump, dephaser and alternator bracket repair. All mainly down to the alternator issue followed by something smashing through the belt cover...
