Such a shame, it’s so hard to prevent and even after watching lots of videos and reviews I’m not convinced the rust inhibitors are 100% unless you can grind out all of the rust.
It’s hard on those box sections as you can’t get inside them unless they’re replaced with new so as you’ve mentioned...
Have you Checked your power steering level, mine sounded awful during test drive m. When I got it home it was running almost empty.
There is a slight chugging/tractor noise I can hear, this could be early signs of dephaser, Has it had a replacement?

Easy job to do mate, they're held in place by one big chunky plastic fastener accessed from the inside of the boot.
Transfer everything from one to the other, and give it a little clean whilst you're in there :)
Don't go too crazy when refitting or you'll break the housing, if you hear...
How did you find the K-Tec arms?
I was looking at the arms from K-Tec but couldn't figure out if the holes for the lower ball joint were offset and give the Castor requirement.
Instead I opted for new bushes, ball joint and a DIY refurb of the originals, all in about £50.

If you join the 172/182 forums on Facebook there are often people breaking them, I picked up a rear genuine offside wheel arch trim for £20 as mine was split, along with some other missing clips etc. Bloody bargain!
Like many traders I don't think they know what they're on about.
Part number is the same as RPD and K-Tec.
Fits all models, look at the price form K-Tec!
Sorry to hear that, it's really hit and miss. I asked the seller for additional photos, as the ones he poster were not the best quality.
The marks that you often find down the sides though are from when the control panel is sat resting against the down parts of the dash.
