Hi guys and gals, another newbie Trophy owner here :)

I've just bought 470, which is not an unknown car on this forum. It seems like it has lead a colorful life so far with 8 owners, one or two being members here. More recently, it has been set up for track use but looking at the work done it has been cared for as well, which is the important thing especially when used on track!

I've got an aim to getting it back to tip top condition and refit some Sachs dampers that have been sadly removed, along with minor paint work on the rear bumper.

I've got a couple of questions:

1 is can we get the Twingo RS Sachs dampers still for the 60mm bolt spacing that I have spotted, and..
2 the car is on what looks like black Turini's but how do I tell if these are proper Trophy alloys...?

I know Sachs come up for sale, but what sort of price should I be looking at for a set of fronts?

The car needs a few things sorting. One of the ABS sensors on the rear is Kaput...I remember from Mk1's with ABS they can be a PITA to get out...the exhaust needs rehanging, but that's quite easy. I will plug in my CLIP and see if anything else is up.

I've got a spare 182 head here with a nearly new dephaser, so I may get that fettled and pop it on to this car and do the HG and water pump etc at the same time to get the engine in tip-top nik. If there is any worry about the bottom end and the compression test results I will just replace it entirely, I might even put a megane 225 R26 and box in for the lolz.

A few standard parts have been retrofitted, so I'll be checking everything works along with going over the engine too and doing the cambelt and pulleys for piece of mind. It's not my first rodeo with these Mk2's and I've done alll this before :D I also have a Clio Williams 1 (0217) and a RB Clio 182 low boost turbo conversion...and a Megane DCi. Oh, and a somewhat tuned Lotus Elise S1. The Lotus and the Williams are indoors under cover but the Trophy can have a space soon as the Williams is off for a total shell respray and rebuilt engine and 'box etc.

I've not got any pics yet but the car sits too high from what I can tell and the Scorpion exhaust pokes out too far for my liking...plus someone has fitted a normal RS bumper and resprayed it I think as the washer jets are on it and the Trophy didn't have those I didn't think...

Here are some other pics for now:

2118's for the RB with trackday rubber.

Hi Mate,
Sachs are pretty rare in any available variant. The group buy was very much a fluke recently of old stock. Do plenty of research on a worst case scenario if buying to refurb. The bill to do everything at BG motorsport on a set is eye watering, hence why when the cars started to get cheaper. many sachs where binned and 182 cup shocks fitted for pennies in comparison.

Rear trophy shocks are now £300 a pair (although rumours that supply is now dead) 182 cup shocks are £65 a pair. Trophy runs same rear springs as a cup. So make of that what you will.

speaking of springs.. original trophies do sit "high" to some eyes, and have a nose down rack. oem springs are yellow eibachs at the front and black with red/white marks at the back

Turinis, first sign is do they have Renault centres caps? If they don't and have a generic speedline centre cap then they are off the shelf speedlines, If they do, then you need to work out if they are possibly 172 cup wheels which where a wider offset but a narrower rim I believe. 195 tyres are usually the give away.

Looking at 470 thread I would guess you don't have washer blanks as a replacement 182 front bumper was sourced after a previous owner had all the wings added to the original. Many blanks snap when removed and are at best glued back on. yeah trophy didn't have Xenon headlights so no need for washer blanks. its more 1.2 inside than 182 away from the sus/seats/wheels/spoiler.

its worth checking your boot struts. again genuine replacement Renault ones are "v6" parts due to the spoiler and a farcical price. Generic mk2 boot struts get fitted and the spoiler then shuts on the roof as they are too long. You can now get after market boot struts from sgs or I use series 1 bmw bonnet struts.

Seats you can still get new trendlines and Recaro rails for a mk2. Or plenty of s/h options usually floating about.

really depends on your plans for the car.

all the best

On the Turinis, Trophy are ET43 or 45, I never remember which.

If they’re stamped ET38.5 then they’re from a 172 Cup.

Wow, thanks! Lots to think about. The trendline seats have been refitted as has the steering wheel. I was due to collect it today but had a hiccup, so tomorrow instead now :)

I thought there may be a difference between the 172/Trophy Turini's. I guess the offset changes the way the arches are filled.

I have just sourced a pair of front Sachs. I may put Mark Fish springs on, we shall see what's going on with it first!

I did see the winglets on the cars original bumper, they are gone now. I will take the bumper off when it gets here and refit a front splitter and remove the jets/clean the crap off and replace any old stuff I see.

I'll watch out for the gas struts on the rear before I open the boot! Cheers!

The wiper covers are unfortunately like rocking horse poo.

The splitter, new again is a comedy Renault price. Have a look at either a carbon one (yes there cheaper)
Or google Skoda Clio 182 spliter for a cheap alternative option.

So, I got the trophy home after a bit of a nightmare involving the RAC and a tyre blowout. Took 20 hours to make it back from when I picked it up!

I've not yet had a chance to look at all of it but there are good bits and bad bits, to be expected really. It needs refreshing and some paint. I've sorted some new front Sachs, to be fitted this week, along with a new MOT. Pics to follow, except this one for now.

I got them off here in the parts for sale section :) Sent from the Netherlands.

I think I might start a new thread in the Projects section. I've noticed the spoiler fouls the roof so thanks for the info on the boot arms. Will get a 1 series BMW one or X-Type Jag arms for now. The spoiler needs a respray anyway, so I might take it off for a bit and send it to the bodyshop.

Should I do any project work updates in the 'Registered Trophy's' section? I am cracking on already!

I do t know what @Cue means but immediate thoughts are wheel, colour, wing mirrors and the door side “bullets “ if your going original they are silver.

Not really sure either, but there was once a silver trim Trophy it's possible he meant that one??

Nope, just found the pictures of that one. Different plate.

Thanks guys. The interior, as far as I can tell, has been put back to standard and the Recaro's are there. The interior is nice actually, much better than my RB and silver 182. Feels solid.

Yes, the side repeaters are white at the mo and the wheels will be returned to OEM soon.

I've decided to do a bit more work on the RB Turbo and sell it so I can focus on the Williams and Trophy.

there was a couple back in the day that had their accessories painted - one was garish silver everywhere and the other was dark carbon effects, which i thought this may be the one. Think the plate began with an ME but it's over 10 yrs ago and i wouldn't lay money on my memory being that good lol.

Think the pics may be on here still but not sure...
