I think this is a seat position sensor but I’m not 100% sure. It was loose having come away from the screw holding it, didn’t seem to flag any warning lights. I’ve glued the pieces back together but if It doesn’t work will I need to replace it? Looks like a new one would have to be spliced today the existing wiring.

Yes this the seat position sensor which use is to detect how close you are from the steering wheel and trigger either the large volume airbag or the smaller one if you're (very) close to the wheel. Not installed, open in your case will always trigger the larger airbag which is only a problem if you're small size or like to drive very close to the wheel. If you want to only trigger the smaller airbag to be on the safe side until you fix it, juste tape it close and store it underneath your seat.

Super glue worked a treat. Just had to be careful not to over tighten the screw.
