Road tax (2005 vs 2024)

Some things in life never change, yearly road tax increases is one. I hear there will be more increases early next year, perhaps bigger than previous years.

I came across the following DVLA road tax summary. The Trophy is rated at 194 g/km CO emissions (band J). The current annual road tax for us is £385. However, if the T was launched in 2024 we'd be paying £1,650. Staggering.

Well, we’ll be half way to ‘historic vehicle’ status next year. Unless the powers that be abolish that too… 😳

My Trophy has barely moved in the last few years, it’s a hefty price for the mileage. My M2 is less than half the cost. I barely use that either, I wish they priced it based on mileage or an actual emission figure. Both cars probably produce less CO2 than an electric car, if you consider how much CO2 they produce by taking from the grid.
