radio displaying "error" ...any ideas?

fitting a "tunepoint" to the trophys radio this morning,everythings going fine until i turn the radio back on,it had been disconnected so the code had to go back in, so out came the service book (the code is printed in the inside cover btw)
after putting in the code the display went straight to "error" and is now stuck on that..i removed the pulg for the tunepoint but thats made no difference ...does anyone know how to clear the "error" message ?

Have you owned the car from new?

Its possible the radio may have been re-coded before you bought it and the number in the book could be wrong?

possibly but it wont even let me try again...still says "error" and is locked out....
