Looking through rose tinted glasses i am hankering after one.
Its the car I couldn’t afford as a teenager so bought rusty old Capri’s!
The trouble is after owning the trophy and an Abarth I’m worried I might feel a little underwhelmed in the handling and performance department.

£19200 ish including fees - doesn’t looks crazy money for one of the first hot hatches made - and I wouldn’t want to start and replicate it starting from scratch nowadays.

This is a bit more you Andy - I’ve spoken to the Chap who owns it a couple of times - stunning thing and running a 20v Turbo with 250 bhp.

The interior is awesome too with it’s beautiful Recaro seat’s - shame I don’t have a picture of them.

Quizzed him a few times regarding price 🤣🤣 as I too would love one

Missed it Andy - looks like it got sold late 24 - bummer ☹️☹️

When you read the write up it had electric Recaro’s which is such a 80/90s thing with the buttons on the seat bolster

I think the Mk1 Gti will always get peoples attention.

I was lucky enough to own this Campaign (for a few years anyway).

The fella that bought it from me took it back to the UK and he sold it on CC
about two years later, easily doubling his money!!

Very nice Francis. (y)

Thanks Ed, the fella that had it before me, put a lot of time and money in to it.

I loved the colour of it, Helios Blue, really popped in the sunlight.

Hopefully someone on your neck of the woods still has it and is enjoying it.

I actually just checked and it looks like its only been driven 2/3k miles since I sold it,
MOT up in November.
So it must still be in pretty decent condition I guess.

Early GTi's were 1.6, though this one must on the cusp of the change to the larger 1.8 unit being an '82 car.

Thanks Ed.

Just looking online now, the jump from 1.6 to 1.8 saw marginal increases -
110 at 5600 to 112 PS at 6100
137 at 3200 to 150Nm at 5000

I recon this change has parallels with the Mk2 when it went from 8v to 16v? More power but higher up the rev range...

Both engines quite 'tuneable' back in the day too, a pal had a black '83 1800 tuned by the same guys who did my Mini's at the time, was (for the time) a very rapid little thing. Lovely handling car too.
