In the last 18 months seeing any 1*2 on the road has become rarer. They used to be everywhere, just like the Fiesta ST is now. It's a generational thing and the Trophy, or a 172 cup to a degree, being the picks of the bunch will only be going one way in price and it will take us, as owners, to...
Hi,
That 'piece' you have doesn't belong there. I've never seen one like that, it doesn't even look like part of the bearing left behind.
When fitting the new discs you do need a spacer or the pressed bearings won't last long... the one Marc B linked above.
I fitted one with the part number above a couple of years ago. The trophy one is the same as any 182. Most are reconditioned units. I went to Renault. Think it was around £180 with the old unit in exchange. It's quite tight to fit it but there are some guides around...
Sounds like a dead battery to me. Change it and then see.
Key and immobiliser fault would still let the engine turnover, just not fire.
- edit - just seen that you already replaced it. Sorry.
I just replaced my front springs after one snapped prior to mot. I looked around a bit for alternatives, but couldn't see any good reason not to replace with oem eibachs from renault. The trophy has one of the most respected set ups out there at the end of the day, and for £90 each you get to...
As you say just check everything is done up and the bolts are tight - including wheel nuts. If you move the disc back and forth by hand you should be able to check how much movement there is for the pads. To be producing an audible clunk their must be quite a bit. Pop one shim back in maybe or...
Long gaps but I'd be ok with it. So hard to predict as journey length and type of driving are probably the biggest factors. Lots of short journeys are bad for any engine, new oil or not. Just treat it to a few in the next 12k to make up for it!
To to put your mind at rest a friend of mine...
I have my Sachs set at the point at which my body weight can only just compress them (when they're off the car) - that's about 18 clicks on one and 20 on the other. This is a lot firmer than standard 182 dampers but seems just about perfect to me and virtually mirrors the setting before they...
A great write up. Makes we want to go for a drive right now!
I thought the 80s bit was interesting. I've never driven a 5 GT turbo, it seems to stack up more favourably these days compared to the 205s.
Disconnect air intake at the top and trophy will be fine ;)
Seriously, weather is bad. Feel sorry for those affected, but I'm starting to wonder why I bought winter tyres for the snow !
Yes, wife hates it.
2 year old son loves it as he sits in the front next to me.
New baby has no opinion as he just sleeps whichever car he goes in!
But yes we have a 120d as a second car. Need something a bit bigger but the BM will go before the Trophy!
Mmm that leather looks gorgeous to grip, with slightly sweaty hands, as you feel the steering load up approaching a fast left - right sequence!
Far better than the partially melted, rippled, plastic, leather (I dare not hold the rubber inserts tightly as they are bound to crack) Renault saw fit...
Hi,
There are two places in the UK that will refurbish the sachs shock absorbers.
http://www.corneringforce.com/ and http://www.bgmotorsports.co.uk/
Both will remove the pin from the wheel, and so most people who have had their dampers refurbished will have the adjuster working.
I have...
Thought I'd post this link up for those who would like to have a look at the pictures from the Renaultsport day at Oulton last week. I'm in T18PHY.

It was a great day, possibly the best trackday I've attended. Well organised by...
I bought the 565H as I saw the same thing as quoted above. There was a useful diagram too showing the shape of the pad material and it is clearly slightly bigger / thicker. Buy that one, you'll have no issues, although they do squeak a little now and again.
I had mine done. They came back at 18 and 19 clicks! I could just compress them - and I mean just - with my entire body weight on them. At 22 clicks i couldn't compress them at all. I now have them at 24 clicks fitted to the car, it just felt good there after a bit of testing. My dyno print out...
I just bought and fitted some federal RSRs this weekend to replace my PE2s. £76 each delivered from my tyres. I'm impressed so far. Really stiff side walls gives nice responses and feel. Instant high levels of grip too, as soon as they were fitted.
Potential downsides are that they will...
A great drive, it's journeys like this that make you love your car!
I'd recommend the old A82 route to Kinlochleven, miss the new bridge and take the old road around the loch. It is a great road full of lovely corners, and so quiet these days.
Yes I have got them marked up. They were tested and balanced to original damping forces.
I was hoping someone had some experience of stiffening them up, perhaps with a damping curve to see what is going on. I do an occasional trackday and so think it would only be beneficial to have them a...
Hi,
I've just had my dampers back from Simon at Cornering Force and don't hesitate to fully recommend his service.
They are now 'unpinned' and so I want to try and understand what the adjuster actually does and to what degree.
Does anyone have a damper curve for the Sachs at different levels...
