I replied to your PM (twice) but they are still in my outbox. Let me know if they don't arrive by tomorrow. Payment completed by paypal :)
Thanks
Calum
Cue, I sent a PM yesterday but I doubt you received it since I have no record of it in my outbox or sent mail. In the meantime vbdub has sorted me with a set, so thanks, and sorry if I didn't close the loop by PM.
Not only have I snapped a precious Eiback front, I've also snapped a rear spring.
I know the Trophy front spring is different from the 182, but what about the rear... is it the same?
It failed the MOT due to sucking air. They've managed to find the offending hole so I'm good again, at least for the time being. I couldn't wait for a group buy unfortunately. Will opt for the RS192 come the time
When I replaced my rear units it was simply because I'd had the front Sachs rebuilt and wanted a fresh set all round. Although the rears are more expensive that a standard 182 they are small beer compared to the fronts so worth changing, I reckoned.
I heard nothing back from Ben (he's a busy man) so I'm now just waiting for the units to arrive from Renault. They're on back order. That's been 2 weeks now :( I've been quoted £120 a unit.
Good point. It's only the toe that's adjustable, right enough.
I just worry that they'll only have 182 or 182 Cup settings and not the Trophy. I'll soon find out when I ask.
I've had a search on the forum but managed to miss this if it's already been posted.
Does anyone have the 4-wheel geometry settings for the Trophy as it rolls out of the factory at Dieppe?
Thanks JS. I should have been prepared to get down and dirty myself, so I did just that to see if there was a Sachs number on there too ... and there is. It is shown on two rows as:
DB5
84 4904 001 796 SACHS
I've dropped an email to Ben Fricker at BG Motorsport (who rebuilds the front Sachs...
JS, is the part number you quote in your first post on this thread the same as the one you now believe to be correct for the Trophy rear dampers?
part number 8200 519 954
I'm away to buy some. Having just had the fronts rebuilt it seems rude not to. :)
Cue, thanks for the offer, however not only has Ben come good, but his spring has already been fitted to my damper by BG Motorsport and they are in transit back to me as we speak. I'll be back on the road by tomorrow night :D
Superspeedy service all round !!
I had a matt gunmetal bike a couple of years ago and although the finish is more resilient than I first thought it would be, there comes a stage where it begins to polish up, making it all look a bit tatty. What will a matt black car look like in 5 years I wonder?
Ben, you're a star... and you have PM :D
I'm happy to run without the tubing for now. I can sort that at my leisure. The car is up on axle stands right now so getting the Sachs/Eibachs back on it will be a boost.
I did wonder about whether the springs are "sided" but good to know they're not...
Ben, that sounds ideal. It's the nearside (passenger side) one that I need. Does anyone know what that rubber tubing does exactly? I should think we could manage without it, or I could just fit the tubing from the snapped spring.
As long as it has the number 8200514730 printed on it then it'll...
Sam, I'll buy from Renault on Monday if I can't find someone on here who has one gathering dust in their garage. I know some folk have replaced their originals so it's worth a punt on here.
Renault price is about 200 notes so I'd be happy to push 100 someone's way for an old one they don't need.
Snapped springs are probably not all that common so far, but when the Sachs dampers lose their gas and no longer damp properly, then the spring has to cope with vibration of frequencies and sustained aplitudes that they would otherwise not have to, and therefore they can snap. As the Trophy gets...
I've snaped my nearside front spring. :(
Does anyone have an original one, with the correct number on it: 8200514730
I doubt the sides are different, but just in case they are then it is the nearside one I need.
Thanks
Calum
It's a good plan. I fact Ben at BG Motorsport made the suggestion of a set of appropriate Eibachs that would ride just 30mm lower, but I really don't want to risk changing the dynamics of the Trophy. The roads up here are lumpen so will soon show up any heavy-handedness in spring or dampting...
Ben from BG Motorsport has tried Eibach directly but drawn a blank. It does seem that the original springs are indeed only available from Renault directly.
I'm off to make Renault's day ... ouch!! :(
No problemo and thanks for going to the trouble.
If Ben at BG Motorsport can come up with a part number by speaking with Eibach directly, I'll be sure to post it. I'll perhaps try to have it added to the existing sticky relating to the Sachs rebuilds. I've noticed that a few folk have started...
