Wow. It's one dial under the wheel arch. If you want to de-pin then just go for it. You are never going to ruin the handling as its only one setting to put back and it's nice to have a little adjustability. The one change I would add though is the Revalved Mark Fish Koni adjustable dampers on...
You are right. This could easily become a pretty major transformation. The Trophy as standard feels more at home on the road than on track.
I thought mine was the most fun when it just had 1.5 degrees negative camber on the front and a white line rear anti-roll bar. The balance was very neutral...
I doubt you would want to drive down to Marlow to see Mark Fish for a geo setup if you are in the North West. If your close then you should.
I'm guessing you just need a front toe setting? Or are you looking to make changes too?
i would go for a parallel front toe setup or slightly toe in is...
This was not dry stored from new though. It was 5 years old and 35k before storage. I think we agree in general. I'm just trying to steer the OP on the side of caution as I think some people may be underestimating the possible costs and over valuing the car. The dampers may be fine but they may...
Who knows. I agree I would wait and see what happens but we all know they could go at any time even on low mileage cars. I'd imagine they would need to be rebuilt within a few months as the seals are 10 years old and it hasn't moved for 5. It would be sensible to factor that into the purchase price.
I actually think for a valuation you should expect it to easily cost 2 - 2.5k to get this car back to where it should be.
Cam and Aux belt with water pump and dephaser pulley.
oil and filters. Brake fluid. Discs and pads all around.
Battery and possibly alternator.
Basic damper rebuild...
Ok, so anything short of an RS2 is only going to make a small difference for the money but as long as you are aware of that then don't be put off. Personally I found changing the exhaust made very little difference to the cars performance but it just sounded so anonymous when it was standard...
Good choice with the rear Koni's. I think they will be a better match to the Mark Fish springs and essential if you want to adjust the fronts at all.
Love the steering wheel but it would be nice If you could get a pad in the centre for a little peace of mind.
I guess a secondhand sports Cat which fits directly would still be more free flowing than the standard cat. You only have to look at the shape and size to realise the standard one could be better. Obviously if no-one is selling one then the cat mod would be a good alternative.
I've had rsr's and Ad08's most recently and I do think they are a big compromise in the winter compared to a set of michelins. It sounds like you know where you stand on this Hoolio.
My reasoning was I had winter tyres so I could afford to prioritise dry grip. Now there are a few more opinions...
Nice work. Looks great!
Looking forward to hearing what you think when all the suspension is on.
I've never heard anything on here about changing the gearshifter. Any more information and thoughts on the improvement would be interesting.
I picked up my Trophy from the dealer in Southampton and they told me that it had been driven to the garage from Southampton docks. I wasn't impressed at the time! I'm pretty sure it had been out on a test drive or two as well.
Is it not still £1500 for a pair of brand new ones from Monster Sport though? £250 plus say £750 refurb is about as far as I would want to go before just getting new ones.
I think this new Trophy is going to be a good car. It suits my needs now as a 5 door and I could put up with the gearbox if it's faster. The problem is it just doesn't look good enough. It's a relatively big soft monobox from the side and doesn't have the flared arches and stance of the previous...
Sounds promising.
I would certainly buy the revalved Koni's again if I needed more. I always got the impression the cup ones were never very reliable. My MF Koni's have been on my car for 6 years and seem to compliment the Sachs. If you adjust the fronts then it's a no brainer.
What are you after Jules? I can't see you getting any better really. I went from the 'quiet' Orbisoud to a Scorpion with the standard Cat. My neighbours are probably much happier (why I changed) and it's a much more comfortable noise level. A bit boring in comparison and not as well built...
I depinned my dampers years ago and played around with the settings. I used to run mine a couple of clicks stiffer but if you stray any further then the mismatch front to rear becomes more evident in the way the front reacts quickly to steering inputs and it feels like the rear is is slow to...
