Oh I really miss 218!! Almost tempted to buy it back, but I have no where to keep it! Nice to see it's been well looked after though, hope the new owner will continue to do so...
£12k for a 10 year old car that cost £15k new? Generally modifications, expecially non factory fitted, add very little if anything to the resale value of a car, even if the modifications cost thousands. You're better off and likely to have a chance of selling your car if you restored it back...
Whilst I might not fully agree with the verdict, I do agree that these cars are the last of a dying breed. :(

It's what they did with the Megane RS 250, they introduced the first 265 as a Trophy, then the 265 became the norm. Look on the bright side, keeps the real deal Clio Trophy as a proper collectable not a marketing ploy to sell more Clios! ;)
I've experienced exactly the same and posted about it here

I think if the car doesn't stop effectively it may be worth trying to bed them in again as the pads may be glazed as they tend to over time. After I bedded the...
For reference, this is what my R1 dampers looked like:
Front:
Back
The holes for the 4 screws on the ring do not exist on the original dampers so would have to be perhaps drilled in to the top of the original dampers or the tops of the orignal damper needs to swapped with the ones from the...
The R1 dust cover/"scraper" ring on the shaft do fit the regular Sachs, the shaft diameter is identical. It fitted fine on the standard dampers when I took them off the R1 dampers. I didn't know these rings were available separately.
I have for sale a pair of Sachs Dampers that are in need of a refurb. They came off the car in 2012 after I replaced them with new Twingo R1 dampers and have been in my garage since. I'm asking £325ono preferably the buy collects. Please PM me if you are interested. Thanks...
When you consider the car is now nearly 10 years old, it's not doing too bad and faults you describe are fairly minor. Hopefully now that it's sorted, it'll give you a few more years of trouble free motoring.
Guys, give the newbie a break! We don't really want to discourage people from posting here.
@Danny, we're generally a friendly and helpful bunch on here, honest, and will appreciate your contributions to this forum.
The red dial on the shocks are to adjust the damping rate for a harder or...
Yes, 218 is still up for sale and open to offers. The aux/cam belts are due a change next year as per the 5 year service schedule since the car has yet to reach the 72k miles. The belts were last changed in 2010 by JMS Tuning.
Threads like these makes me have second thoughts about selling 218!! You really do get as much enjoyment working on and tweaking the car as well as driving it! I don't think it'll be the same with my new car as it's all covered in plastics and sensors. The Beemer doesn't even have a...
I had the same thing, replaced both the pre and post CAT lambda sensors and it sailed through the MOT. Used to give the car an "Italian tune-up" and a dose of clean emissions additive in the fuel to get it through but it became less effective with each passing MOT. New sensors are the way...
I've found out recently you need to click on "Go Advanced" button before sending and checking the box for "Save a copy of this message in your Sent Items folder." at the bottom of the screen.
I am reluctantly putting up 218 up for sale. I acquired 218 as the second owner in February 2008 with 29k miles on the clock.
The car is pretty much standard except for the Scorpion RS192 exhaust which was fitted in 2008. I fitted Brembo HC discs and OE Ferodo pads in 2009 and the rear...
The 1M is a bit special and it uses the same N54 as the 135i. I test drove a 135i tuned to the same 400bhp as the 1M and fitted with a Quaife diff at BMW specialist Birds near Uxbridge, now that was neck snapping fast!! Too much for me! I also tried a 130i there and that engine is sweet...
I recently acquired a new car to replace the Trophy after 6 years of ownership, call it a mid life crisis if you will, but want to try out something different and found it in the guise of a '08 BMW 135i Coupe. It's a big step up in performance and still need to take things carefully to get used...
Nice work. Just to add the R1 Twingo Motorsport version of the Sachs dampers (77 111 67 414/77 111 67 413) that were used to replace mine come with machined dust seals which are bolted to the top of the dampers and forms a tight seal.
You should be getting around 30-33mpg on average. I had a similar issue a while back, was getting around 28mpg and I think it was running rich as there was a lot of soot on the tailpipes. Turned out to be faulty lambda sensors. Replaced both pre-CAT and post CAT sensors and now running back...
You can try rocking the car. Either push down on the front of one side of the car (pushing down on the top part of the light housing is good spot) or with the door open, push up on the top part of the door way. Tell tale sign is if one side bounces/dips/softer on one side.
The way I look at it is if it is leaking you'd know with bouncy suspension. 99% of all the failures we've seen so far are isolated to just the seals on the reservoirs. I'm hoping by protecting the seals like this it will prevent the seals from degrading due to exposure to dirt, grime, salt...
