I was reading this thread yesterday too. I've been wondering about these as mine are just about ready for replacement I think. Any more thoughts Ben? Would you recommend them to someone who does 25K a year? :?
I think Ossie is right the RS loves to oversteer which looks like great fun. I think this has helped it get such great reviews but probably slows it down a little on track. I'd rather take it as it is :D
Mark Fish springs have lowered it around 10mm front and rear. :D
I don't think the wheels look as good as I would have hoped. Maybe it's because the car looks pink in the picture!
I look forward to hearing how you get on Peter. It sounds like the perfect setup if you can get something similar on the Trophy. Certainly just upping the spring rates 25% and the rear dampers has made mine 'relatively' harsh on the road. Adding an anti-roll bar wouldn't affect the comfort...
I would think about giving Mark Fish a call. He has the experience to set your car up for the track, not just for fast road. Perhaps you should invest in a new car though. I don't think the Trophy will never drive like that. As Jonc said the weight is all in the wrong place. You could stop it...
Anyone on here still thinking of getting a Focus RS should do this. It's got all gloss black details and a really plain set of wheels. Hey, it's not exactly a subtle car so you might as well finish the job!
Hi Sam,
There seems to be more Trophies around Chelmsford than anywhere else! I hope we can all meet up for a drive again soon.
I remember picking mine up from new. Those first miles were really frustrating!
Luke.
Chris,
I hope that answers your questions. No pics at the moment but there are a couple on the linked website. I'm not sure if this is still worthwhile with my current suspension setup, but I guess its still helping.
Nathan, I thought the same as the beam which is already there looks solid! The ARB fixes to that and the bottom of each damper with a drop link. I saw one on another Trophy and it got me interested.
I then read a feature in Performance Tuner mag where they fitted one to a clio cup and raved...
Adding more negative camber on the front helps to prevent the tyres rolling onto the outside edges during hard cornering. This gives the car more front end grip - although it will be a bit more of a handfull on uneven roads. Lots of people have had this done.
I added a whiteline rear anti...
1. Brakes (Pagid plus lines and fluid)
2. 2 degrees negative camber on the front.
3. Spare set of wheels and tyres for the track (15" will be cheaper for tyres and much more choice). Buy secondhand and sell them on when your done.
4. Rear anti roll bar (good on the road and cheap)
5. Unpin your...
Not sure what's up with your Trophy, but after all the money you have just spent on it I would have thought it should be cheap to run for at least the next 6 months! I do feel your pain though. I booked mine in for all the Mark Fish suspension work and cambelt a week before I was given my notice...
That's because this is the first RS model since they made such a hash of the last Focus RS! They made a loss on them last time and would have done the same if they built a Fiesta RS apparently. Don't get me wrong though, I'd have the Focus in blue over an R26.R. Maybe a set of track wheels. Fair...
Rich,
Mine is a scan guage. Give me a call if you want to try it. I'm not sure it will do the job but it's worth a try. If it doesn't then at least I can stop carrying it around everywhere with me just in case!
If you feel your trophy could be stiffer then the Mark Fish springs are the answer. 25 percent stiffer just about sums them up. A little less comfortable everyday, but the decrease in roll (and I guess the lower centre of gravity) helps create a noticeable increase in grip (with the rear...
I had my revalved Koni's fully firm (720 degrees) and the fronts around 33 clicks from soft on track. Still need to play with the settings. On the road I still wouldn't go to fully soft at the rear unless I take rear passengers. I guess I'd rather put up with the stiff ride than the slacker...
Mark Fish originally worked with 7MAT to revalve the koni's to match the sachs front dampers as they didn't go as firm as he would like. Mine (revalved by MF) go both firm enough and soft enough for road use in my opinion.
I took my car to Bedford on Friday but as I was wearing out George K's...
Interesting project. I look forward to hearing how it goes.
I'm very happy with my Mark Fish suspension setup, but I'm doing 500 miles a week at the moment and about 1 trackday a year :( . It's definately still a road car in my opinion ( and a good one :D ). I think you'll need to talk to...
It was a great little meet guys. Thanks very much for sorting that out. Those were some fantastic roads - especially at the airfield and following Rich on the way home :D . I'll be going back on the bike soon.
FRb20 - The Civic has very focused suspension and tyres. Its pretty impressive. No...
Just don't assume they will check it works when they fit it. I had to go back once to get the bonnet opened again and then again after they broke the badge doing it! - Toomey Basildon [-X
If you do a lot of trackdays it might be worth finding out about the HANKOOK RS2 Z212. I believe they have a road tread but a stiffer track tyre sidewall. They are out of stock at camskill but would only be £65 in 205/45 R16.
I wanted to try some for a ring trip but I think they are difficult...
I've done 63k in mine and covered lots of Germany, Austria, France etc, including a couple of ring trips. It's not too bad when standard. At 60 - 70 its really not a problem but if you drive at 80 - 90 then it feels like it needs another gear. I just turn the radio up. Stay away from aftermarket...
