For sale - Four Genuine Trophy Wheels and Track Tyres

Space Monkey. Thanks for your good wishes. I have now had a good trawl over it and the rear suspension is a tad strange with an angled RLWB pick-up, at least it was easy to do the toes front and rear. Just need to order some suitable aircraft spec bolts to adjust the camber. Have heard other...

For sale - Four Genuine Trophy Wheels and Track Tyres

Have taken a flier and bought a 2005 very low mileage DC5 - totally un-modified. Obviously lots of grunt, but will take a lot of work to get the chassis up to Trophy standards - most of the aftermarket suspension is stupidly stiff for road or the hills and the dampers are very poorly valved. Can...

strange knocking sound when moving off!!

Are you sure that this is not the ABS self test? There was a separate issue with the top mounts catching on some Clios, but i have not seen this mentioned for the Trophy.

For sale - Four Genuine Trophy Wheels and Track Tyres

Wheels are as new, lovingly polished even on the inside. Tyres are 60% worn Kumho V70A soft - the only make available in the correct size. Warning, they are brilliant in the wet, but not in standing water (only have 4mm tread when new)- also being soft they pick up every little bit of grit and...

    Trophy Tyres

Just an aside but a recent Autobild test on a Corsa VXR put teh Goodyear F1 Assymetrical and the Hankook V12 well ahead of the PE2, particularly in the wet.

cutting a hole for your cold air feed

Hoolio - all is not lost, this comment did relate to another car and it could have been an installation issue. We should all club together to get you to do a proper back to back so as to resolve this issue for once and for all!

cutting a hole for your cold air feed

This whole airbox discussion is interesting. As it is up stream of the butterfly, it has limited potential to add airflow, only to restrict it. The maxogen story sounds like PR - contracting and re-expanding airflow will require energy, which has to come from the air itself - can't be helpful...

    BB Performance Tuning

Could it be that the pads are binding in the caliper - i had to file down the backplates to make sure that they could move freely (but not sloppily). Most competition pads squeals as they do not have any anti squeal backing or shims.

    Loud creaking from boot area.

Just woner whether the rear beam is mounted on stiffer than normal, i.e poly bushes, which are creaking because of the dry weather?

Jonc, very close to mine - tends to bear out that a good re-map is the only thing worth doing.

    boosting torque!!

7Mat - the Cams are AWT, which are slightly different from CatCams - more lift- the duration is slightly less than his earlier ones as he had an idle stabilisation problem. Harratt - I am not going to get into mine is better or worse than yours discussion (more approriate for Cliosport) but...

    billet fast road camshafts

See also my comments re another of your posts. It is not practicable to change the duration very much, as otehwsie the AFNM can not control the idle properly. Higher lift should help mid range, torque, but frankly the changes will be small. Has used an independent rolling road ot verify each...

mods on car but dosent feel any faster

Ben182 - see various of my other posts - my experience is that a customre-map is the only solution - nearly everything else is a waste of money. I have also changed the cams and had the inlet matched. Talking to Ben R, he admits to struggling with the later 182's, and thinks that it may be...

    To own a Trophy.....

Shiftspark, they all mainly pre 1992 and the emissions are a doddle at 3.5%. I have not completely given up on the Trophy, am waiting for some more info. The local renault dealer foreman is an enthusiast and doing some research for me.

    boosting torque!!

Relative power claims always end up with these sort of issues. In order to avoid any vested interest I have used a well respected independent r/road. Also it is vital to do before and after runs to get any sort of benchmark, otherwise r/roads are not accurate enough to make absolute power...

    To own a Trophy.....

Probably my age, but don't fancy Westfields or Elises - too many very well sorted ones out there already. 205 can not run Mi16 engine in production class. The pug is a great base, as is an early Golf, but involves a lot of work, and I have too many other commitments on my time. For a while I...

    boosting torque!!

Cue, I would agree re the crash diet, but nothing less than 150 kg will make a significant difference (I have a spreadsheet model which relates times to power to weight ratio- works for Goulds and heavy diesels) and that would cannibalise the car, and destroy its value as a Trophy. Sadly the...

    To own a Trophy.....

high_altitude I am in the process of deciding what to do with mine - under 6,000 miles. Engine now produces genuinely slightly over 180 bhp, front geometry revised to 2.0 negative and various other bits of detail tidying up. Do check with me before finalising your decision. Reason for possible...

    boosting torque!!

Hasving been through a whole raft of before and after r/r ests I would say that the only thing that works is a custom re-map. Matched inlet, cams, modified inlet and generic remap did virtually nothing for torque - 3 ft lbs, from 137 - 140. Custom re-map up to just over 150. It deos seem that...

    Exhaust back boxes

Much simpler, I have pushed a garden cane right through both boxes and as the cane is longer than the box, they must be 'straight through'. My only objection to the standard seet up is that it seems very heavy.

    changing dampers

Hoolio, To be honest it is hard to explain, becuase it is multi-dimensional, waffle for I know it works, but I have never come up with a water tight scientific explanation. Roughly it moves the roll centre sideways, to where the tyre meets the ground, which increases the the self righting effect...

    changing dampers

BTW just look how little droop there is at the rear - which I am convinced is one of the great Trophy secrets. Whether it is the springs or arb that is too soft is another debate. As the Challenge racers run much stiffer springs, it would be quite safe ot run much stiffer springs for circuit...
  29. G

    changing dampers

Pete G At the risk of being contraversial - softening the front will not reduce roll stiffness, but it will reduce the amount of roll damping. This will have the effect of making turn-in more sluggish, which normally ends up with more forward weight transfer and hence understeer. The...

    Swapping wheels...

Vamos - I live in SE Devon, near Honiton. There are several clubs: Woolbridge, Torbay, Burnham & ??. Would welcome some Trophy company - i occasionally see a couple of 172 Cups from wales, but apart from that it is very rare to see a modern Clio in the Production class. BTW it would appear that...
