It now seems that the FIA are now working on the basis that the 'defaulting' driver must not attempt to re-overtake until after the next corner. Whether this has always been the case is not clear; if it is a clarification, don't see how they can apply it retrospectively. Certainly McLaren have...
Just get a good custom re-map - everything else is marginal and never backed up by independent before and after figures. Save the rest for geometry, brakes and your next set of pads.
Originally studied engineering, but as I could not find an interesting job in motor sport, switched to accountancy. This way I got into motor racing and was lucky enough to work in F1 from 1976 - 1999 (March, Walter Wolf, Williams, Tyrrell and briefly a Honda F1 project), and as a side line...
I have mentioned before that the Trophy/I was much quicker with the TC turned off - dry or wet - it just cut back too mcuh - but I would suggest that driving hard without it on is fine on a track, but in the wet on a strange road we all need as much help as we can get.
I did wonder about shortening the gearchange rod, so as to tilt the gear lever back. At first i found the gear lever position a real problem, but eventually stopped noticing it, even though it was not my every day car.
I have just checked the Pagid data sheets and the following coefficients of friction are very revealing
RS 4-2 Blue Cold 0.40 300C 0.43 Max @ 550C 0.46
RS 4-2-1 Black Cold 0.36 300C 0.42 Max @ 500C 0.45
RS15 Grey Cold 0.50 300C 0.54 Max @ 600C 0.62 (Just...
I used Pagid RS15 as I needed a pad with lots of bite from cold. They met my criteria brilliantly, but like all 'race' orientated pads do sqeal a bit - largely because they do not use shims or any other damping on the backplate - also based on feedback from the new owner, who did not like the...
Cue - You are quite right, I did have a conversation with Ben a while ago - I should follow it up.
On a more general note, whilst mowing (4 boring hours, but good thinking time) it occured to me that the best way to describe the problem with 'performance' cams. i.e those with more overlap is...
It arrived on concrete tyres - for some reason despite the low mileage and being a reputable tyre (RE040) they had gone rock hard and gripless - recent tests of 215/45x17 have shown Goodyear F1As and Hankook K110 well ahead of everything else including PE2, the Goodyear is not offically...
Handling, handling and handling, also fairly civilised and in right capacity class for hill climbing. Pluses, amazingly good in the wet - downside (which is why I moved on) power to weight ratio is not special (and hard to make significant improvements without spending a fortune or spoiling the...
The problem is that the type of AFM used by the Trophy and many other modern cars can not handle much overlap without the idle becoming unstable, and the algorithms in the stabilisation routine try to shut the engine down rather than speed it up. There are ways around this, but they are all...
As Hoolio mentioned I also have a set of genuine Trophy wheels - no dings, but no centres - I used to swap them over, with Kumho V70A super soft track tyres - total mileage probably less than 250, but tyres over half worn - cost £900. Anyone interested? I am based in SE Devon, but can also...
Cue, Only time (or rather my times) will tell if I have done the right thing - there does seem to be much more scope to get a reasonable power increase from the Honda engine. There are lots of after market bits, mainly Japanese in orgin, very expensive, suspension coil overs are ridiculously...
The 888 is a track tyre, will wear much quicker than a road tyre, has a much harsher ride and worst of all will aquaplane like mad. There is talk that track tyres may not be road legal in the future as they do not have enough tread depth to resist aquaplaning - probably a couple if years away...
Now I am an ex-Trophy owner (Cue what to do about the stars?) I will admit to having received my winter fuel allowance before the Trophy arrived. More amusingly I received my first competition licence on the same day as the invitation to apply for a train pass!
I claim that you are young as you...
The best solution would be a hard track tyre - need advice on pressures from the suppliers.
The RS2 should be the best alternative - road compound and track construction - run 2-4 lbs softer than PE2.
T1R's are just too soggy.
I used Chipped UK at Bromsgrove (largely because RS Tuning are too far away) and saw gains throughout the range starting at 3,000- biggest was 12.5 ft lbs at 4,250 - holding on with over 10 right up to 7,200.
This superceded a generic remap, which showed absolutely no change below 5,300. No...
It is really great fun isn't it . The Clios come down to my local climb at Wiscombe. Generally, apart from my last outing in May, the Trophy would beat the 172 - he's fitted a quaife ATB for this year and was also on Kumho V70A track tyres.
Glad that BG have confirmed that, as I suspected they can do them - they have a long involvement in motorsport. Just ask if they can dyno check them as part of the overhaul; if funds run to it, I would always recommend overhaul in pairs - if nothing else get the good one dynoed to ensure that...
The problem with lowering a Trophy is that you will change the amount of droop travel on the suspension (the amount by which the wheel drops from the normal position when fully jacked up), as the dampers were designed for the standard ride height. This may not be an issue, but I am convinced...
The Trophy is relatively soft by track or even rally tarmac standards - fine for indifferent roads. For high speed circuit work it rolls too much - stiffer springs/arbs would call for even stiffer dampers. As Cue says the joy of the Sachs dampers is that the bump/rebound characteristics are very...
Stevie, Trophy has a rear beam, just the same as most hatches, including Clio 3 and Megans, except for Golf and Focus. It is the cheap and cheerful solution, and as in so many cases detailed evolution gives as good a result as the more sophisticated fully independent set ups on the Focus and...
