Check out - Pistonheads Trophy Review

I am rebuilding the front suspension and was surprised to find conventional yellow/orange urethane bump stops combined with the dust shield - don't know if there is anything else in the main damper tube, or whether this was journalistic licence.

    ESP off!

I have found that for hill climbing, dry or wet turning it off is worth 1 - 1.5 secs in 50!! Does make rather a lot of noise as traction comes and goes, butmuch more rpecise and the car is sufficiently forgiving to keep one out of too much trouble. Just have to remember to turn it of on the...

Welcome back Ben - hope you are fully recovered. Mountain bikes are banned from now?!! Look forward to hearing of any interesting developments.

Is My Clio Cleverer Than I Thought? Or Is It Just Broken?

Isn't this to do with whether you choose the local setting?

    Hello!

I describe the Trophy as very user friendly, even under competitive conditions, including the wet. The light back end under braking is probably due to the very limited droop on the rear dampers; but that is a relatively small price to pay for the handling balance that gives under most other...

    Hello!

Alex, Plus and minuses between Trophy and Integra - some reckon the DC5 is not quite as precise as the DC2?

Michelin PE 2's - summer tyre

The summer tyre reference seems to be for the US market and is obviously designed to avoid products liability claims when they have a big accident in snow or ice - bearing in mind how litigious the US is. Over there they have tow road categories, summer or all seasons categories, the latter...

    Front Dampers

As one of the embarrassed enthusiasts who in trying to unpin the adjuster managed to break the adjuster shaft, I have just taken them off the car for reconditioning. The good news is that they were easy to remove and that the strut top nut (21 mm) was not difficult to undo. The top mount...

    Tyres

One other thing, I think R888 have relatively soft sidewalls, so you may need to experiment with pressures - I run only 26/24 for the Kumho.

    Tyres

Nig63. They seem fine, people who have swirtched from Yoko 032/048 don't find them any worse - can't vouch for durability - main attraction is that there is often a super deal to be found. Can't remember if they offer a choice of compounds - if you are thinking of using them for track days, i.e...

    Tyres

F1's generally do well in these reports because they are good in very wet conditions, but tend to be average in the dry and damp - there are some very good surveys on tirerack.com A firend is now on SO2 and provided he runs at 28/26 is very ppeased. I reckon the PE2 is about 1.5 seconds...

    NEW PADS?

Progress report on RS15 - brilliant from cold - good pedal - squeal intermittently. Can't advise on fade, as that is not an issue for hill climbing. Absolutely fine for road use. Dust does not seem to be an issue and is more grey than black.

Priority mods for a new owner?

Wiper stalk - the standard unit is maddening A good geomtery set up and 2 degrees negative at the front Better pads - there are lots of different opinions on the subject - you pays your money and takes your choice! Unless tracking it for long runs, drop the tyre pressures to 28/26. (I have...

    JDM Civic Type R

Steve, I totally agree that above 60 mph power to weight gives way to power/CDA - but as I mentioned the Autocar test only showed 1 second gain 0-100 mph between JDM and UK version.

    JDM Civic Type R

The Trophy is quite stiff, but actually has very progressive damping, which is why it is so good in the wet (I am not brave and relatively my times are better in the wet). JDM damping tends to be much harsher which is not so helpful.

    JDM Civic Type R

When first written up it looked to be the ultimate up to 2.0 litre package. In fact it is quite large and much heavier than the Trophy. According to Honda's Japanese website the basic version weighs 1,270 kg - so to get the same power to weight ratio the Trophy needs 195 bhp, which should be...

How much of a compromise is FWD?

Back to topic - iirc in BTCC the RWD cars carry a greater weight penalty than the FWD to get some degree of parity.

    camber bolts!

Front at 2.00 degrees - leave back at 1.45'. The back is adjusted by quite expensive shims - the only issue at the back to call for any change is if the toe or thrust angle is out by more than say 20'.. A lot has been written about the front toe settings after increasing the negative camber...

    camber bolts!

Mine cost less than £5 as I used 12 mm aircraft spec bolts and nuts, which give the right amount of camber change. Personally I would be nervous about machining the bolts as this can easily create stress points - the tightening torque is very high, about 180 NMM if i remember correctly

    Right... I've decided.....

Cue - after first event, the RS15 do what I require , i.e are amazing from cold - can not report on long run fade resistance (as hillclimbs are very short) - also no anti vibration backing and as a result they do squeal a lot - dust does not look to be a problem. For various reasons i shall...

    The Original Owners Thread

As suggested I am an original owner and am likely to keep it for a long time - just a question of finding development projects that I can afford - don't use it often enough to get bored and its suits my motorsport requirements perfectly. I suppose that I am lucky enough to have an everyday car...

Who has the most sorted Trophy?

Steve, I am not sure but the new JDM Civic Type R has a gear diff - probably Torsen, made under licence in Japan - not so harsh as the Quaife. The advantage of gear diffs is that they are compact and do not have any friction surfaces to wear.
  25. G

Who has the most sorted Trophy?

Quaife do - but you will recall that they did the one for the Focus RS, and that had a reputation for being snatchy on uneven surfaces, unlike the Torsen version now used in some Alfas (which is very cheap £260 from EB spares) The other problem with gear type LSD's is that they only work if...

Who has the most sorted Trophy?

Cue, believe it or not I have not driven it for three or four weeks - have an event next weekend so should be able to report, although if, as is almost inevitable, it is very wet, it will be hard to asess.

Who has the most sorted Trophy?

Mainly aimed at performance -so notcosmetics apart from deleted front splitter (car park accident - saves weight of course!). Spare set of o.e wheels with track tyres A/v replaced by 75 mm hose, blended into modified airbox Angel works cams, inlet and remap (courtesy of Rsport) 2 degrees...

    Heel 'n' Toe

The accelerator pedal unit is mounted onto studs on the lower part of the bulkhead - I have used spacers to raise and tilt it towards the brake pedal - much better on road and track. The problem is also exacerbated by the FBW system which provides a slighly soft response - i.e not an instant...
