Matt X2C, i completely agree. I know the current 'offical' advice is that all cars should run the tyres with most tread at the rear - but that seems totally illogical for cars prone ot understeer (90% of all modern cars). the only caveat is, as already suggested, not to have less than say 3mm at...
Perhaps its my age, but I find the ride hard, (Devon lanes are bumpy to say the least) aggravated by the seat backrest being unyielding - but as I mainly use the car for competition it is not an issue. If you do the push down test at the front you will find that it is extremely stiff - in fact...

Congratulations - great effort. Think that I would rather you did not come to Wiscombe - I might be shown up too much!!
I am trying to keep the car as road sensible as possible - hence only cams so far - have now custom re-mapped it at ChippedUK (as they are much nearer than going all...
The trouble with the 3.2 is that it is heavy, thirsty and poor torque curve compared with the 2.0T, particularly in 230 - 260 bhp verisons - makes nicer noise, but a poor second in every other respect off a motorway.
Depends on how good the VAG scheme is - some of them are very clever and have mininmal P11D (tax) implications. Personally I would go for a Gti 30 anniversary with DSG, or if they will run to it a TTS!
In theory teh a/v should not restrict feed into the airbox, as there are two separate 62 mm feeds into the bottom half airbox if you look carefully. The object of the a/v is to reduce external induction noise in the 'drive by' test applied in some countries - notably Switzerland. No body has...
I have been in a prototype Evo X with the twin clutch gearbox - aboslutely amazing, and more civilised than I expected. Perfectly comfortable four up, and race mode the gearbox always changes down to stop the revs dropping below about 4-4,500.

Thanks for asking, last year was very busy for all sorts of non-car reasons, so I only did Wiscombe. Got down to 48.7, which is about 2.5 secs off the quick boys - 750 kg Golfs with 195 real horse power, or varous other much more track focussed vehicles.
The season was mixed, partly...
Hoolio, most interesting post, particularly as Mark has a very good reputation. You say that the front toe was a set at 10' - presumably this is toe-out. I know there has been lots of discussion about this setting - did Mark endorse it?
Did he have any advice re tyre pressures?
From where...
According to the factory's workshop manual, the settings are:
Front Toe-out 0.25' +/- 0.17'
Camber 0.17' +/- 30' , the norm seems ot be nearer the upper end, i.e 0.47'
Rear Toe-in 0.20' +/- 20'
Camber 1.30' +/- 20'
Note all...
The trouble with after market ECU's is that they do not have all the facilities for emission control and often for cold starting, and the mapping points can be insufficient for all the low speed points that are necessary for urban use - but if you want to go to more aggressive cams there is...
My explanation was against putting a strut brace on the rear.
A stiffer rear ARB will not do much as once the car is three wheeling it is irrelevant, but will redeuce understeer up to that point - though frankly there is not a lot that can be done when the the car is so nose heavy. It may...
The main reason is that the droop travel on the rear shock absorbers is deliberately restricted, which works well with a torsion beam rear end and relatively stiff springs and gives surprisingly porgressive handling - on the other hand you will note that there is a lot of droop on the front to...
Sadly camber change affects the alignment quite dramatically - when I went to 2 degrees negative, I had to adjust it back from 1.45' toe-in - a total of 10 flats on each track rod.
BTW the standard front settings are:
Camber - per book 0.17' +/- 30'.- mine came at 0.42'
Toe-out - per...
It is probably the first and cheapest thing to do. You can buy camber adjusting bolts, or use aircraft grade 12 mm bolts and nuts, or elongate by 2mm the top hole in the the flanges at the bottom of the strut which connect onto the hub carrier.
Cue, I am quite surprised by you running as high...
G40 steve - as far as I can remember those are the standard settings or close to them - can't check my files until the weekend - however I would have expected the front ot be more like 0.5 (30') negative and 0.25 (15 minutes)toe-out.
You need to get a 4 wheel alignment check if you have a...
Agree with best mod settings. (I might experiment wiht running front wheels at parallel this year). Track tyre pressures are much lower Kumho recommended 26/24 (which I find fine) - some run even lower. Rear arb won't help much as rear wheel lifts very easily any way!!
Always run with TC...
M3 will be going twin clutch in the foreseeable future and replacing the SMT. Have been in the Evo X with twin clutch, which is sensational. It has three modes, normal, sport and super-sport. In the latter the changes are amazingy fast, and it is programmed to keep the revs above 4,500, so will...
The rear one can not make any difference to the handling as the Trophy has torsion beam rear suspension, rather than strut. Because it is a hatchback the only thing of this type that would help would be a well designed roll cage, and frankly then only if running much stiffer springs - as per the...
The official works setting is 22 clicks from soft. The warnings are for real - probably best otoremove the damper from the car first.
The 22 setting is a good compromise for road and works well in the wet - stiffer would help on smooth high speed applications.
According to a brief article on the Whatcar website this is due to be launched soon. 205 bhp - excess weight stripped out - different suspension - undergoing SVA at present. Sounds very exciting until one reads the price; an estimated £27,000. Has anyone seen any more details?
Don't write off wet weather performance - as the Trophy seems fundamentally very good in the wet - I am relatively more competitive in the wet, and am definitely not a hero. Interestingly providing there is not standing water the Kumho V70A (virtually a cut slick) are quicker than the PE2!!
Under MSA rules slicks move you into a class where a roll cage is mandatory. They do generate a lot more grip, so dry sumping could well be necessary, as would much stiffer suspension - after look how stiff the race cars are.
